“WOMEN'S INDOOR - Julie Rubenstein (Camarillo, Calif.) scored a match-high 16 points in leading the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team to a 25-13, 25-15, 27-25 victory over Egypt at Cairo on April 12 to conclude its brief two-match cultural exchange exhibition series arranged by the United States Olympic Committee and the Egyptian Olympic Committee. Team USA won the first match in four sets on April 10.

• won the 14-Open Division of the USA Junior National Southern California Qualifier Tournament in the beginning of April
• won the Pacific Northwest Qualifier Tournament (14-Open Division) in Spokane, Washington
• qualified to compete in the 14-Open Division (the highest division for this age group) at the USA Junior Olympic Girls Volleyball Championships, to be held in Miami, Florida, June 26 – July 5, 2009

The girls volleyball team consists of: Hannah Gleason, Taylor Whittingham, Brittany Ptak, Kalysta White, Kelsey Humphreys, Alyssa McIvor, Kristie Hewko, Sofia Lvain and Kyra Goodman.

“We found Carly last year, playing at the Junior Nationals in Dallas, Texas,” pointed out Wilcosky.

“We were very impressed with the way she played and we started to recruit her. She is a multi-sport athlete who will fit right in with us. Her work ethic is second to none and she is definitely a presence at the net. We look for her to come in and play right away for us. We lost four seniors this year and we see her contributing in the middle for us immediately. “

"The three young ladies signing today have been a big part of building the program here at Prattville High School. I am very proud of these girls for all the time and effort they have put into the volleyball program," Prattville head coach Jenny Rhodes said. "I don't think there is any question about their abili¬ty to play at the next level. The success we have had over the past 2-3 seasons a lot of the credit goes o these three seniors."

In Girls High School Volleyball Who Plays Together—Stays Together Even When Going to College

Jessica Panther, Cameron Wilkens, Megan Wagner and Beth Helling former team members of the Holy Trinity Catholic High School volleyball team will now play together as members of the Southeastern Community College team.

"I'm excited to get the opportunity to hit from the outside," Cary said. "It will be a very big adjustment. It's a lot more competitive at the college level than it was in high school. It's going to be really exciting."

“She was one of our captains. I was hard on her, but she responded. She has a lot of potential and can be a good college player, but she has to stay with it and work hard."

About playing in front of her hometown crowd:

"It was exciting," Wilberger said. "Looking around, I saw a lot of people I knew, especially up in the parent's section, where I had some people watching me. That was really cool."

"It was a little different warming up, seeing all the people that I know," Wilberger said. "But like you do every time you compete, you try to focus on the match, not the crowd. I really didn't feel nervous out there.

“I think some of the people from back there were more excited than even I was at the time,” Wilberger said. “I’m just really trying to keep everything in my mind to the minimum. Because, I think, if you play it up in your own head too much, it kind of takes off on you.”

"It was kind of a humbling experience, knowing that we're not where we should be or need to be for next season," said sophomore middle blocker and Scottsbluff product Jordan Wilberger. "It definitely showed us some things that we need to work on as a team.

"I think we have to keep things in perspective, knowing that (it's spring volleyball) and we're still trying to work on our team dynamics. But at the same time, there are some things that we are good at but just didn't do today."

“To have two players sign to play college ball says a lot about our program,” Northside coach Catherine Young said.

“We were not a dominant program, but this shows that we have good athletes and that the program is on the way up.”

"I think it continues to create the image of what Nebraska volleyball is about in that a local kid comes here, plays hard, gets better and gets that opportunity to get into some big matches."

Kelsey Gray is the second girls volleyball player in Newark History to sign to play at a Division 1 school

Dreams Do Come True for Girls Newark High School Volleyball Player Kelsey Gray

According to Newark girls volleyball coach Ruth Sunkle:

“She played a lot of club volleyball, and that told me she was serious about the game. She was always trying to get better.”

 “She has loads of talent, and she’s only going to get better,” Sunkle said. “She has really matured into a solid player, and her leadership by example really came to the forefront this season.

“She has great work ethic, and her teammates just seemed to follow her lead.”

“It’s just nice to know all the hard work I’ve put in has paid off. I’ve always had this goal, and when I signed, it was one of the happiest days of my life. It’s an awesome feeling, and a dream come true.”
