Ten-day trip also includes training camp with Swiss National Team
ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio University rising senior middle blocker Meghan Simons will head overseas next week to play with the USA Development Team in the fifth-annual European Global Challenge from July 19-23 in Pula, Croatia.
Prior to the start of the tournament, the USA Development Team will participate in a five-day training camp with the Swiss National Team and another European national team still to be determined. The Americans will play matches against both national teams at the end of the camp.
Simons (Lancaster, Ohio) was a first-team All-Mid-American Conference and an Academic All-MAC selection in 2008 after hitting a team-high .323 and leading the Bobcats with an average of 0.98 blocks per set. Her hitting percentage ranked as the eighth-best single-season mark in program history.
Simons will enter her senior season at Ohio ranked eighth on the program’s rally scoring charts for career block solos (38), block assists (164) and total blocks (202). She needs 98 total rejections in 2009 to become just the 10th player in program history to reach the 300-career block plateau.
