RRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 8, 2009 – James Madison freshman outside hitter Danielle Erb (Tampa, Fla./Plant) was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for her performance in the second week of the season in the JMU Days Inn Invitational.
Erb was named to the invitational’s All-Tournament Team after aiding the Dukes to a 2-1 mark over the weekend. She averaged 3.50 kills, 4.17 points, and 3.00 digs per set over the three matches while hitting .326 and adding five aces and five blocks.
In a tight five-set loss to Duquesne, Erb recorded her first career double-double with 15 kills, 14 digs, and four aces. She followed that with another double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 win over Hampton. Erb closed the weekend with 13 kills, .480 attack percentage, six digs, and three blocks in a 3-0 sweep of St. Francis (Pa.).
Through six matches, Erb leads JMU with 82 kills (3.42/set) and 98.0 points (4.08/set). She is also averaging 2.54 digs while hitting .270 with seven aces and 16 blocks (0.67/set). She is the only freshman among the top 10 in the CAA in kills (sixth) and points (third).
Erb and the Dukes will be at Radford tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. JMU will then travel Friday and Saturday to the Comfort Suites 49er Volleyball Tournament at Charlotte.
