Liberos Sidney Stewart, Jessica Adams Conference USA Co-Defensive Volleyball Players of the Week 3
Battle for the 2009 C-USA regular season title begins Thursday. Tulane set to defend its 2008 crown at UTEP.

IRVING, Texas - Conference USA is set to open its league schedule this week as Memphis (2-8) plays host to UAB (5-5) and Tulane (3-3) travels to UTEP (7-3) on Thursday, Sept. 17. A day later will feature a match between two of the league’s top teams as league-leader Southern Miss (10-1) takes on UCF (8-2) in Orlando, Fla., at Noon. The Knights currently rank fourth in the league standings.
The league went 27-16 overall last week including a 3-1 victory by Tulane over LSU, a program that's receiving AVCA Top-25 votes. Southern Miss also upset SEC foe Mississippi State, 3-2, on its home court while SMU went 4-0. Three of the Mustangs wins were five set thrillers including a 3-2 victory over metro-plex rival TCU.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DANA POWELL, SMU
6-0, So., OH (Tulsa, Okla.)
Powell led SMU to a 4-0 week and first tournament title of season. After averaging 4.72 KPS and producing a .284 hitting efficiency she was named Tournament MVP at the Montana Invitational. Powell recorded eight kills in the fourth set for a comeback win over host Montana. She also had a season-high 26 kills and 19 digs against Arizona State. This is Powell¡¦s first Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Co-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
SIDNEY STEWART, SMU
5-10, So., L/OH (Houston, Texas)
Stewart earned Montana Invitational All-Tournament honors after leading the Mustangs with 4.78 DPS and 10-or-more digs in all four matches. She assisted SMU to a 4-0 week and first tournament title of the season. This is Stewart¡¦s first weekly honor.
JESSICA ADAMS, TULSA
5-9, Fr., L (Oklahoma, City, Okla.)
Adams was named to the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational All-Tournament team after averaging 4.85 DPS. In four matches last week, she tallied 87 digs for an average of 4.83 DPS. In a five-set win over Stephen F. Austin, Adams recorded a career-high 26 digs. This is Adam¡¦s second weekly honor of the season.
SETTER OF THE WEEK
RACHEL LINDELOW, TULANE
5-11, Sr., S (Mandeville, La)
Playing in all 13 sets, Lindelow claimed her first-career all-tournament team honor after averaging 10.69 assists and 2.46 digs per outing at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic. She posted three straight double-doubles with 46 assists and 11 digs at UNO, 41 assists and 10 digs against LSU, and 52 assists and 11 digs against Long Beach State. Her 52 assists against the 49ers stands as the second-highest total of Lindelow¡¦s career. This is Lindelow¡¦s first Setter of the Week honor.

fÕ East Carolina allowed just two points in the first set of a 3-0 win against Savannah State on Sept. 12. It is the lowest point total given up by the Pirates since rally scoring went into affect in 2001 and the first time ECU has held an opponent to less than 10 points in a set since allowing nine to Campbell in the second set of a 3-1 victory in 2007 (Pirates won the set 30-9). UAB also held Alcorn State to two points on Sept. 4, while UTEP only gave up eight points to Norfolk on Aug. 29.
fÕ Junior Tracey Lam now has double-digit digs in 51-straight matches dating back to 2007. She ranks fifth on the Rice career dig chart with 1,281 digs and needs 121 to crack C-USA¡¦s Top 20.
fÕ Southern Miss¡¦ Maia Ivanova is 13 digs shy of becoming the Golden Eagles all-time leader. She currently has 1,585 digs, ranking 10th on C-USA¡¦s all-time chart.
fÕ Head coach Lisa Seifert earned her 200th career win Saturday night as SMU took the crown at the Montana Invitational. Rice sixth-year head coach Genny Volpe is three wins shy of her 100-career victories with the Owls program. Ed Allen of Tulsa is one win shy as the 450th milestone. He has acculumated an all-time mark of 449-175 in 18 seasons.
