Irvine, Calif. - A pair of double-doubles by senior outside hitter Mallori Gibson guided the Pacific Tigers to a 2-0 week to improve to 4-2 in Big West play and earned her Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week honors.
This is the second weekly accolade of Gibson’s career.
In Friday’s match versus Cal State Fullerton, who was receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 poll, the Bakersfield, Calif., native tallied her first of two double-doubles on the week with 16 kills and 11 digs. Gibson added two service aces and two block assists in the 3-1 win over the Titans.
The following evening she registered a .400 hitting percentage, while recording a season-high 21 kills and 15 digs against nationally-ranked Long Beach State for a back-to-back double-double performance. The Tigers’ 3-1 victory handed the 49ers their first conference loss of the year.
For the week, Gibson averaged 4.62 kills and 3.25 digs per set and fired a .322 hitting attack.
