Corinne Perry Earns Third Rookie of the Week Honor
Cambridge, Mass. (Nov. 9, 2009) – Freshman Corinne Perry (Northport, N.Y.) was named the America East Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, according to a release from the conference office on Monday. The freshman setter finished second in the league last week with 10.50 assists per set. Perry helped guide the Seawolves offense to a season-best hitting percentage of .371 in the team’s sweep of Binghamton by dishing out 36 assists while also picking up eight digs. In a loss to Albany, Perry recorded 27 assists and seven digs.
Duke’s Moss Named ACC Co-Player Of The Week

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke senior Rachael Moss collected her second ACC Volleyball Player of the Week citation of the season on Monday, earning the honor along with Clemson’s Sandra Adeleye, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced.
Just one day after learning she received her second straight Academic All-District III First Team award, Moss pounded 33 kills in two matches during the weekend, including a 22-kill outing against No. 16 Florida State. She followed that effort with an 11-kill performance in a 3-0 win at Miami in which she also collected her 1,600th career kill. A 5-10 outside hitter, Moss is only the fourth Blue Devil in school history to reach 1,600 kills in a career.
A two-time AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selection and three-time All-ACC honoree, Moss also totaled 18 digs, a .301 hitting percentage and five service aces during the weekend, including three aces against Florida State. Duke’s active leader in kills, digs and service aces, Moss put down the 160th ace of her career against Miami, becoming the fourth Duke player to reach that mark as well.
On the season, Moss leads the Blue Devils (22-5, 12-3 ACC) with 279 kills, an average of 3.24 kills per set and 717 attacks. She also tops the team with nine double-doubles, the last of which she recorded against Florida State. Moss has reached double-digit kills in six straight matches and 17 times overall.
Moss’ selection is the third for a Duke player this season, which leads the ACC. Moss also collected the award on September 28 just one week after sophomore setter Kellie Catanach was named conference player of the week on September 21. Moss has now been named ACC Player of the Week five times in her career.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson freshman middle blocker Sandra Adeleye and Duke senior outside hitter Rachael Moss were selected Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, announced today. Adeleye is just the second freshman to earn the award this season, while the honor is Moss’ second of 2009.
Adeleye, a freshman from Katy, TX, asserted herself as one of the frontrunners for ACC Freshman of the Year, leading the Tigers in kills and blocks in both road wins during the weekend. Clemson has won five matches in a row, four of which are on the road, and Adeleye has led the Tigers in kills in each of those five matches.
She posted 13 kills and six blocks in three sets against Maryland, hitting .524, and then had a career-high 23 kills to go with five total blocks in the Tigers’ 3-1 win at Boston College, propelling Clemson to their 20th win of the season. During the weekend, she averaged 6.71 points/set and accounted for 43.0 of Clemson’s 176 points (24.4%). She hit .550 for the weekend and had only three errors in 60 swings.
For the season, Adeleye is third place in the ACC in hitting pct. at .389, she is second among all league freshmen in kills/set (2.82), remarkable for a middle hitter, and is third in the ACC in blocking (1.18/set).
Adeleye is the first freshman to be named a Player of the Week from Clemson since Jeannette Abbott earned the honor on Sept. 24, 2009. She and Abbott are the only two players in Clemson history to earn the honor as freshmen. Abbott went on to win the league’s Rookie of the Year award that year as well.
She is also the second Tiger to earn the honor this season, as Kelsey Murphy was named the ACC Player of the Week on Sept. 7, 2009Both Clemson and Duke will return to action on Friday, November 13 as Duke will travel to Blacksburg, Va. to take on Virginia Tech in Cassell Coliseum at 5 p.m., while Clemson will host nationally-ranked Florida State at 7 p.m. in Jervey Gymnasium in Clemson, S.C. Duke will then go to Charlottesville, Va. to play Virginia on Saturday, November 14 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium and Clemson will host Miami at 6p.m.

Alaina Bergsma Named WCC Co-Player of the Week
Freshman Alaina Bergsma was named WCC Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Monday. Bergsma, a native of Chandler, Ariz., guided LMU to a 2-0 record at home last week, including a three-set sweep of the University of Portland on Saturday afternoon. The Lions earned a five-set victory over Gonzaga on Thursday night before sweeping the Pilots in the weekend affair. Bergsma shares the accolade with San Francisco’s Haley Carroll. The selection is the first for Bergsma in her career, and is the first for the Lions this season.
Bergsma collected 60 kills over the two matches played, averaging 7.50 kills per set and hitting .368 with only 17 errors in 117 attacks. Not only a threat on the attack, she also served-up three aces, posted one block solo, a block assist, 29 digs and five assists. The 6’3 outside hitter collected a double-double in both matches last week, running her total to 10 double-doubles on the season to match teammate Alesha Young for most in the West Coast Conference. She also totaled 64.5 points (8.06 per set) over the eight sets played, while averaging .38 aces per set and 3.62 digs per set.
Bergsma notched a career-high 32 kills against Gonzaga on Thursday, five short of the LMU record for a freshman in a single match set by Amy Moeller on October 16, 1992 versus San Francisco. She hit .268 (32-13/71) over the course of the five sets, teaming the kills with two service aces, 17 digs and a block solo for a double-double.
On Saturday against Portland, Bergsma had 28 kills and hit a blistering .522 (28-4/46) to lead LMU to the sweep of the Pilots. She teamed that mark with five assists, a service ace, one block assist and 12 digs for another double-double.
Over the course of the season, Bergsma has collected at least 10 kills in all but two of her matches, and currently leads the Lions in kills (404/4.54 per set), service aces (36/.40 per set), block solos (16) and points (473/5.31 per set).

CALIFORNIA’S CUTURA NAMED PAC-10 VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that CALIFORNIA senior outside hitter Hana Cutura has been named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Nov. 2-8.
Cutura, who hails from Zagreb, Croatia, helped the 13th-ranked Golden Bears to a pair of Pac-10 road victories over No. 24 WASHINGTON STATE and No. 4 WASHINGTON, including handing the Huskies their first loss at home this season. For California, it marked its third-straight victory over a ranked opponent. In Friday’s 3-1 win over the Cougars, Cutura posted her seventh double-double of the season with 19 kills and 10 digs.
In Saturday’s 3-2 upset over Washington, Cutura notched her third 30-kill performance of the season, posting career-highs in kills (33) and attacks (77). In the process, she became the Bears’ all-time career kills leader with 1,825, passing Tiffany Rochelle. She also moved into third place for most attacks in a career with 4,244.
For the weekend, Cutura totaled 56 points, 52 kills and 18 digs. In the NCAA ranks, she’s third in kills (5.10 kps) and fourth in points (5.59 pps).
This is the second weekly honor for Cutura, and California’s 26th all-time Player of the Week.

NIKKI FOWLER DOUBLES UP ON WEEKLY AWARDS
Junior Takes Home SEC Offensive Player and Lady Vol Athlete of the Week Honors
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – For the second time this season and fifth time in her career, University of Tennessee junior outside hitter Nikki Fowler has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. In addition, she edged the UT tennis tandem of Caitlin Whoriskey and Natalie Pluskota in a tight vote to take home Lady Volunteer Athlete of the Week laurels for the third time this year.
Fowler joins LSU’s Brittnee Cooper as the only other player in the SEC to win the league’s offensive player of the week honors twice during the 2009 campaign, having previously picked up the award on Sept. 28. Last season, Fowler led the conference by claiming the accolades on three different occasions.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Fowler was simply outstanding in all phases of the game this past weekend, leading the Lady Vols to sweeps over both Mississippi State and Alabama with her eighth and ninth consecutive double-doubles. The 6-2 outside hitter was the team’s top offensive weapon, smashing out a squad-best 26 kills for an average of 4.33 per set, while hitting .302, which is 90 points above her season average, with just seven errors in 63 swings.
Fowler was also UT’s best defensive player, scooping up a team-high 32 digs for an astounding average of 5.33 per set, in addition to collecting five blocks in just six sets. To top it off, she was Tennessee’s best passer as well, handling all 42 serves that came her way. Against the Bulldogs on Friday, Fowler led all players with 10 kills and 16 digs, while hitting at a sizzling .364 clip with just two errors in 22 attacks.
Just two days later versus the Crimson Tide, she put forth another stellar performance, delivering a match-high 16 kills with 16 more digs, two blocks, a pair of assists and an ace. With her offensive output this weekend, Fowler increased her career total to 1,125 to move past former Lady Vol Sarah Blum into 13th all-time on UT’s career kills chart.
For the season, Fowler leads the team in kills (328), kills per set (3.57), total attacks (928), points (392.5) and points per set (4.27). She also ranks second on the squad with 307 digs and 3.34 digs per set, third with 81 blocks and 0.88 blocks per set and is passing at a .960 rate with just 20 errors in 495 reception attempts.
Tennessee will close out the road portion of its schedule with contests at Auburn and Georgia this weekend. The Orange and White will first take on the Tigers at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 13 in Auburn, Ala., before making the trek to Athens, Ga., for a 2 p.m. showdown against the Bulldogs on Sunday, Nov. 15, which will be televised live on Comcast Sports Southeast.

Smith, Calhoun Named Southland Volleyball Players of the Week
Smith receives her league-leading fourth award of the season, Calhoun takes home first award on the year
FRISCO, Texas - Central Arkansas junior Chloe Smith and Texas State sophomore Amber Calhoun were named the offensive and defensive players of the week respectively by vote of the league’s sports information directors. Smith picks up her league-leading fourth award of the season and Calhoun receives her first honor of the season.

Smith, a native of San Diego, Calif., helped the Sugar Bears secure the Southland Conference regular season title by hitting .409 with 5.67 kills per set. In a sweep against McNeese State, Smith hit .452 with a team-high 18 kills and in a sweep over Stephen F. Austin, Smith hit .371 with 16 kills and 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week - Amber Calhoun, Texas State
Calhoun, a native of Houston, Texas, took charge in the middle as the sophomore registered 13 blocks this week to help Texas State to sweeps over UT Arlington and Sam Houston State and a 3-2 win over Lamar. She tied her career high seven blocks and added six kills in a 3-0 win over SHSU. On the week she recorded 20 kills on .273 hitting to move the Bobcats into a first place tie in the West Division with Sam Houston State.

MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico middle blocker Anna Lehne and TCU middle blocker Kourtney Edwards have been named Mountain West Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Lehne, a 6-1 senior from Pueblo, Colo., led New Mexico to home Conference wins over Utah (3-1) and BYU (3-0) last week. Against Utah, Lehne tallied nine kills with only one error for a .421 hitting percentage, while also collecting five total blocks. Against BYU, she posted a .538 efficiency (7-0-13), two total blocks and two digs. On the week, Lehne averaged 2.29 kills, 1.00 blocks and 2.93 points per set, while hitting .469 (16-1-32).
Edwards, a 6-1 senior from Haltom City, Texas, led the Horned Frogs to a sweep of BYU and a four-set win over Utah last week. Against BYU, she posted 13 kills at a .400 hitting clip and one block. In the Utah contest, Edwards collected 17 kills with only two errors (.455 efficiency) to go along with three blocks and one dig. In the decisive fourth set, she tallied five kills and a .714 hitting percentage. On the week, she averaged 4.29 kills, 0.57 blocks and 4.64 points per set, while posting a .431 hitting percentage (30-5-58).

Sauer Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week
Honor is the second of the season for the senior
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior libero BriAnne Sauer was named the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week announced by the league office on Monday. It is the second such honor of the season for the Louisville native, as she first earned the nod on Sept. 28.
Sauer had a tremendous weekend for the Wildcats as she led the team with an astounding 6.86 digs per set and four service aces on the weekend. With three aces against Alabama she matched a career-high total for a single match. Against the Tide she had 25 digs and then she scooped up 23 digs against Mississippi State. With two matches of 20 or more digs, Sauer has now tallied 25 career matches with 20 or more digs.
Additionally, Sauer has tallied 429 digs for the season which is currently the 10th most in a single season in UK history. She continues to increase her career total as she now sits just 17 shy of reaching 1,500 digs for her career.
Sauer’s presence in the back row has been a key factor in UK’s 22-2 overall record and 14-1 clip in league play. UK’s starting libero for the last two seasons is simply having the most spectacular year of her career. In SEC matches this season, Sauer is leading the conference with 5.22 digs per set. The next closest player is averaging 4.93. UK ranks among the top-two in every offensive category, but even more impressively led by Sauer the Wildcats scoop up the second-most digs per set in SEC action with 15.95 digs per frame.
Five UK players have earned SEC weekly honors this season, but Sauer is the lone repeat winner. Both distinctions were the first of her career.
Sauer and the Wildcats will hit the road for the final two-match road swing of the regular season. The Blue and White first travel to Georgia on Friday, Nov. 13 for a 7 p.m. ET match. UK will then take on Auburn on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m.

For the second consecutive week, Henderson has captured C-USA’s Offensive Player of the Week award. She averaged 6.22 kills per set, totaling 56 kills, and hit a .322 attack percentage in two road matches. The freshman also totaled seven blocks (two solo, five assists), scoring 60.5 points (6.72 per set) for the Golden Hurricane. She had a career-high 31 kills, a C-USA single match best for the season, and tallied four blocks against Southern Miss on Sunday. Against UCF Friday, Henderson hit .420 (25K-4E-50TA) on her way to 25 kills (6.25 kills per set) and three blocks. This is Henderson’s third Offensive Player of the Week honor, the most for any C-USA offensive player this season.

Adams totaled 50 digs in two road matches, averaging 5.56 digs per set. She also had a pair of assists and a service ace for the Golden Hurricane. Against Southern Miss on Sunday, Adams recorded a career-high 30 digs (6.0 digs per set) and on Friday at UCF, she tallied 20 digs (5.00 digs per set) and served up an ace. Adams has been named Defensive Player of the Week a league-best four times.

Seymour guided the Golden Eagles to back-to-back C-USA victories with a 3-1 win over SMU and a 3-2 win over Tulsa. She finished the weekend with 13 kills and no attack errors in 28 swings for a .464 attack percentage. The sophomore averaged 10.67 assists per set and ran her double-double total to 18, with 46 assists and 12 digs against the Mustangs and 50 assists and 13 digs against Tulsa. Seymour has been named Setter of the Week a league-best four times this season. The Golden Eagles also clinched at least a share of the C-USA regular season crown and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming championship.

McQuin Named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week
Kansas City, Mo. -- UMKC volleyball player Christiana McQuin was named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today. McQuin earns the honor after posting a career-high tying nine blocks against Centenary, while adding eight more in the win over Oral Roberts. In the ‘Roos two wins last week, the Wellington, Kan., native totaled 20 kills and seven digs to go along with her 17 blocks.
On the season, the middle hitter has registered a team high 101 blocks and a league-leading 1.05 blocks per set average, while helping the squad rank first in the league with a 2.40 blocks per set average. McQuin ranks third on the team in kills and aces with 195 and 22, respectively, while sitting fifth in the league in hitting percentage in conference matches with a .285 mark.
McQuin joins teammate Kelsey Knoche as 2009 Summit League Player of the Week honorees, as Knoche earned Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 26. McQuin is the first ‘Roo to earn Defensive Player of the Week, since teammate Brittany Fossier won the award last season. The last time that two players from UMKC were honored as Player of the Week in the same year was in 2005 when Lauren Starks and Vanessa Portela were each named Offensive Player of the Week.
McQuin’s play has helped lead the squad to a five-match home winning streak, one win shy of the school record six, set in 1999. Behind McQuin, the Kangaroos have registered the second most conference wins in school history with eight, two behind the school record of 10 set in 1999, with two conference matches left to play.
UMKC will be in action again on Tuesday, when the team hosts SIU Edwardsville on Senior Night. The squad finishes Summit League play this weekend when it visits IPFW on Friday and Oakland on Saturday, while vying for a birth into the league tournament.
Rosa Earns Fourth SBC Player of the Week Nod of 2009
FIU won two pivotal matches on the road this weekend to clinch the SBC regular season crown
NEW ORLEANS - Senior Yarimar Rosa has been named the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Week , as was determined by a vote of the league's 13 head coaches. The honor is the fourth of its kind of the season for Rosa, as she now owns a conference-record career 13 weekly accolades.
Rosa led FIU to a pair of key wins this past weekend as the Panthers went on the road and defeated Western Kentucky, 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23), and Middle Tennessee, 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 22-25, 26-24), to clinch the Sun Belt Conference regular season crown.
A native of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Rosa secured a team-best 41 kills on the weekend, leading the Panther offense in both matches with 20 kills versus WKU and 21 kills versus MTSU for an overall kills per set mark of 5.12. The senior hit at a clip of .321 across the two matches and also contributed three assists and a service ace on the offensive side of the net. Rosa was also active on defense, notching 18 digs for a 2.25 digs per set weekend mark, including a team-leading 14 digs against WKU.
For her career, Rosa owns an FIU all-time best 1,980 kills and needs just 20 more kills to reach the 2,000-kill plateau. The Panthers are winners of 19 straight matches and own an overall record of 26-2, a mark that includes an unbeaten record in conference play at 16-0. The 16 conference wins are an FIU record, surpassing the previous high of 15 league victories in 2008.
FIU returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 11, as the Panthers host Florida Gulf Coast at 6:30 p.m. at the U.S. Century Bank Arena.
