WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that UCLA senior outside hitter Kaitlin Sather has been named the Pac-10 Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
Sather, a native of Santa Rosa, Calif., helped lead the 11th-ranked Bruins to a pair of road victories over No. 14 CALIFORNIA and No. 4 STANFORD. For UCLA, it was the first sweep in the Bay Area since 2000. In both matches, Sather led the defensive charge averaging 3.56 kps, as the Bruins held the Golden Bears and Cardinal well below their season averages in hitting. Heading into Friday’s match, the Bears were hitting .274, but were held to .214. Sather recorded 11 kills and 12 digs in the Bruins’ 3-1 victory.
In Sunday’s 3-1 upset over Stanford, the Bruins defense held a Cardinal team hitting .267 on the season to .218 for the match. Sather recorded her team-leading 12th double-double of the season registering 14 kills and 20 digs. With the win, the Bruins snapped an 18-match losing streak to the Cardinal.
For the season, Sather is second on the team with 2.72 kps and 3.05 dps. During Pac-10 play, she leads the squad with 3.17 kps and 3.52 dps.
This is the first weekly honor for Sather, and UCLA’s 55th all-time Player of the Week.
