Arizona Volleyball Team Announces Spring Schedule
The Wildcats will highlight its spring schedule with a trip to Hawaii over spring break
TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona volleyball, coming off an NCAA appearance in 2009, will compete in four matches during the spring 2010 season.
UA will begin its spring season by departing for Honolulu, Hawaii on March 12 where it will train under the spring allotted workout hours. The Cats will also participate in many team-bonding exercises during its time on the Hawaiian beaches. On March 18, Arizona will take on the University of Hawaii in a spring match.
After returning back to the mainland, the Cats will host the Arizona Spring Tournament on Saturday, March 27. Teams confirmed for the tournament are: Arizona State, New Mexico, New Mexico State and Northern Arizona. There is a possibility additional teams may be added.
To cap its spring events, Arizona will travel to two California coastline schools in consecutive weekends. They’ll face UC Santa Barbara on April 10 before heading to San Diego the following weekend to play USD.
Coach Rubio’s team held a record of 19-11 in the fall season, earning a trip back to the postseason after navigating its way through the treacherous Pac-10 slate. Over the season a record eight teams were ranked through five poll periods. The Wildcats began the season with a school-record 12 wins to open the year. UA also knocked off No. 13 USC, No. 11 Oregon (twice), No. 21 Washington State, and No. 11 California along the way.
Heading into the 2010 fall season, Arizona will have a bevy of veteran players including senior hitters Tiffany Owens and Whitney Dosty and setter Paige Weber. All three were Pac-10 honorable mention selections in 2009.
