INDIANA STATE SIGNS TWO RECRUITS TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL
Sycamores solidify lineup for 2010 season by signing setter, outside hitter
TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Indiana State volleyball coach Traci Dahl has announced the signing of two recruits to National Letters of Intent to play for the Sycamores starting this fall. Loni Mackinson, a setter from Pontiac, Ill., and Monique Morris, an outside hitter from Brown Deer, Wis., have signed their National Letters of Intent to play for Indiana State.
“Both of these athletes are very bright students and come from great families,” Dahl said. “They will be great additions to the team and will have major roles in the future success of the ISU Volleyball Program.”
Mackinson was named the Most Valuable Player and Top Server as a senior at Pontiac High School this past fall. She lettered in volleyball all four years of high school and lettered in track for two years. She was selected First Team All-Conference as a senior after being second team as a junior and honorable mention as a sophomore.
“I am pleased to have Loni become a part of the ISU Volleyball family,” Dahl said. “She is going to bring a great deal of athleticism and will add a high level of competitiveness to the team in the area of setting. She has all the qualities I am looking for in an incoming setter. Loni is also an offensive threat at the net. She is a great blocker and leader on the court. Loni has excelled in both Volleyball and Track in high school. Her speed and agility will be utilized immediately.”
Mackinson has competed on the Illini Elite Volleyball Club 18 Black team for the past three years. She plans to major in nursing at Indiana State and eventually become a pediatric nurse.
Morris was named All-State for three straight years, the Most Valuable Player and Player of the Year of the Woodland Conference-North Division for three straight years, and an All-Conference selection all four years at Brown Deer High School. She was MVP of her high school team all four years, team captain in 2007 and 2009, and started all four years of high school.
“Monique is a great athlete who comes in with some great experience,” Dahl said. “She has a very strong presence at the net and is very explosive off the floor. Monique is a competitor on all levels and she is going to bring that quality and demeanor to the current ISU team. I see Monique making an immediate impact on the team offensively. Her ball control continues to get better as she strives to be a solid 6 rotation player. She has been the team captain and has shown that she is a great leader on and off the court.”
Morris also played basketball at Brown Deer High School where she was Player of the Year and Best Defensive Player in 2007, and was named the Most Improved Player in 2006 and 2007. Morris has four years experience with the Capital Volleyball Academy Capital 18 Red team. She is undecided on a major at Indiana State.
