Liberty Volleyball Team Inks Two More Recruits Katie Beecher and Becca Haraf
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty Volleyball Head Coach Shane Pinder has announced two additions to the Lady Flames’ 2010 team roster. Katie Beecher and Becca Haraf have both signed national letters of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2010-11 academic year.
Katie Beecher (RS/MB, 6-0, Concord, N.C.) was a four-year varsity starter at middle blocker and a two-year team captain for Concord High School. She helped the Spiders claim a trio of South Piedmont Conference (SPC) regular-season titles and three SPC Tournament championships. An All-SPC performer as a junior and senior, Beecher finished her career with 408 kills, 223 blocks and 98 service aces. She is the younger sister of Tommy Beecher, who played quarterback for the Big South champion Liberty football team this past fall.
“Katie is a good-sized athlete who has played multiple positions, noted Pinder. “With her strong work ethic and love for the game, we feel that she will develop into a good player for our program in time. Katie is a great fit at Liberty University.”
“Katie is a dedicated and driven volleyball player,” added Concord Volleyball Head Coach Leanne Havely. “I have had the honor of coaching her over the past four years and have watched her develop into a well-rounded, ‘court-smart’ and consistent player. Her ability as a leader and middle blocker were instrumental in our success these past few years. She will be an asset to Liberty in the coming years.”
Becca Haraf’s (DS/L, 5-5, Arlington Heights, Ill.) stellar performance on defense played a key role in John Hersey High School’s back-to-back IHSA regional and Mid-Suburban League titles in 2008 and 2009. A three-year starter at libero, Haraf racked up a school-record 457 digs as a senior and tallied 1,171 digs for her career. She was both an all-area and all-conference honoree as a junior and senior. Haraf also caught the eye of PrepVolleyball.com, earning a spot on the “Defensive Dandies” and “Top Players in Illinois” lists in 2009. Academically, Haraf has made the High Honor Roll and ranked in the top five percent of her class throughout her four years at John Hersey.
“Becca is a libero/defensive specialist who is a great serve receive passer and defender,” explained Pinder. “She will bring speed and athleticism to the position, as well as depth. Becca is a great leader on the floor, with her competitive nature and playmaking ability. We are excited she chose Liberty.”
Liberty’s list of incoming freshmen for the 2010 season now numbers five players. Jade Craycraft (S, 5-11, Wooster, Ohio), Kaylee Groeneveld (OH/MB, 6-0, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Lillie Happel (OH, 6-0, Ellicott City, Md.) all signed national letters of intent during the November signing period.
