Three College Volleyball Recruits To Join Auburn Team Next Season
AUBURN, Ala. – Head coach Wade Benson and the Auburn volleyball teamannounces the addition of three talented players to their squad for the
upcoming 2010 season.
Joining the Tigers is Alabama product Chelsea Wintzinger, Kansas native
Margaret Clark and Caroline Adams of Georgia.
“These three players have potential to impact Auburn volleyball at a
high level,” Benson said. “They all possess the experience and
competitive level to elevate Auburn to the next stage in collegiate
volleyball.”
Wintzinger is a 5-7 setter from Huntsville, Ala., and built an
extensive list of accolades during her high school career. She is a high
school All-American for Huntsville, 2009 Gatorade Alabama Volleyball
Player of the Year and a three-time state 6A tournament Most Valuable
Player. Wintzinger led her team to four state championships (2005-07,
2009) and holds the Alabama state record in career assists with 7,655
assists in five varsity seasons.
“Chelsea is a highly decorated Alabama player that will bring so much
to this team,” Benson said. “We’re excited to have her setting
skills and she has great potential to be a four-year starter here at
Auburn.”
Clark is a 5-11 right-side attacker from Leawood, Kan., and led her
2009 St. Thomas Aquinas squad to a 38-4 overall mark and a Class 5A
Kansas State runner-up finish. She was a two-time captain for her squad
that recorded three-straight sub-state championships. Clark is a 2009
Class 5A First Team All-State selection and First Team All-State
Tournament honoree. Her club team, the KC Extreme, has been ranked among
the top 15 in the country for the last seven years.
“Margaret is playing at the highest level in the front row and
playing with great skill,” Benson said. “She is a part of one of the
best club teams in the country and has the ability to be an all-around
skilled player for us.”
Adams, a 6-1 middle blocker, hails from Lilburn, Ga., and competed for
Providence Christian Academy. She led her team to a school-best 33-13
mark this past season, finishing with 393 kills and 156 blocks. For her
efforts during her senior season, Adams was named to the First Team
All-Region squad and the Gwinnett Daily Post All-County First Team.
During the offseason, Adams plays for the A5 Volleyball Club in Atlanta.
“Caroline is a great athlete out of Georgia,” Benson said. “She
is becoming more and more learned in the game and we have high hopes for
her in the future.”
The 2010 Auburn squad starts the season in August 27-28, hosting the
War Eagle Invitational at the Student Activities Center.
