Volleyball’s Johnson Honored by COBRA Magazine
BATON ROUGE – LSU setter Brittney Johnson was named to COBRA Magazine’s All-Preseason Volleyball Team. The squad honors the top African-American collegiate players heading into the 2010 season.
Johnson, a two-time recipient of Jesse Owens Award presented to the African-American athlete with the highest GPA on campus, has passed out 835 assists during her first three seasons with the Tigers. Her athleticism and versatility offer LSU’s attack multiple looks on the front row heading into the 2010 season.
Johnson, a Baton Rouge native, ran an efficient offense circulating 45 assists to go along with a career-best 13 digs and matched a career-high with six blocks in a 3-2 setback to No. 5 Stanford during last season’s opener.
COBRA Magazine is one of the top publications in the volleyball world and celebrates diversity in collegiate athletics. Its mission is to monitor the success of volleyball players of African descent in hopes of encouraging black girls to pursue the sport.
