After the annual free Orange and Black Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 12:00 p.m. in legendary Gill Coliseum, Oregon State volleyball team hosts its home opener in the Corvallis Invitational, squaring off against Portland, Sacramento State and Ilinois State on August 27-28.
The volleyball team then hosts Florida Gulf Coast, UNLV and Michigan in the Corvallis Invitational volleyball tournament the following weekend before wrapping up its non-conference schedule on the road with volleyball tournaments at College of Charleston and UC Davis.
Prepare for more upsets from this Beaver squad, as it returns nine letterwinners from last year’s volleyball team, five starters, including seniors outside hitter Jill Sawatzky and middle blocker Kiersten Sambrailo.
Sawatzky and Sambrailo are joined by sophomore volleyball setter Megan McBride, defensive specialist Alyssa O’Neil and middle blocker Ashley Eneliko. And Oregon State adds its largest group of newcomers under head coach Taras Liskeyvch of nine, all competing for playing time.
As always, the Beavers face a tough schedule with 11 2009 NCAA Tournament opponents over the course of their 31 matches. These include eight Pac-10 schools, a pair of which advanced to the Sweet 16 round or further last season.
