Utah Volleyball Team Looks to Extend Deseret First Duel Win Streak
Utes have taken five consecutive matches from the Cougars.
The University of Utah volleyball team will begin the second round of Mountain West Conference play by looking to extend its win streak in the Deseret First Duel to six matches as it takes on BYU at Crimson Court on Friday at 7:30 p.m. MT. The match will be televised live on The Mtn., and live stats of Friday’s match will be provided by Gametracker at utahutes.com.
‘Barto’ Banter: Karolina Bartkowiak (Aurora, Ill.) has 983 career kills which leaves her only 17 away from becoming the 12th member of Utah’s 1,000-kill club.
Redd Effect: Freshman middle blocker Erin Redd (Spanish Fork, Utah) leads the MWC’s overall statistics with a .390 hitting percentage this season, which is 20 percentage points ahead of the second-place player. She tops the conference-only stats with a .451 mark through eight league matches, which is 80 percentage points higher than the second-place number.
Neeley Sets Up the Utes: Utah senior setter Stephanie Neeley (Saugus, Calif.) leads the league with 10.71 assists per set after eight MWC matches. Neeley currently ranks fifth in school history with 2,673 career helpers.
Fisher Extends Dig Streak: Libero Keisha Fisher (Ririe, Idaho) has at least 10 digs in her last seven matches. Fisher is second in the MWC with 4.18 digs per set this season. In the league’s conference-only stats, Fisher is tied for the league lead with 4.04 digs per set.
Deseret First Series: Utah trails 56-26 in the all-time series with BYU. Utah has not lost to BYU since Nov. 7, 2007 and has taken 13 of the last 16 matchups against the Cougars.
Last Time in the Deseret First Duel: Odale had a match-high 19 kills and Utah swept BYU (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) Oct. 1 in the first match of the Deseret First Duel. The Utes outhit the Cougars .362 to .194 and came up with 43 digs compared to 29 for BYU.
