MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE PARTNERS WITH AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY FOR MAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Mid-American Conference and the American Cancer Society have partnered for the 2010 MAC Volleyball Tournament Championship game as part of a conference wide initiative to raise the awareness of breast cancer.
The MAC Championship game will be held at the Toledo SeaGate Centre Saturday, November 21 at 3 p.m. A portion of each championship game ticket purchased through the American Cancer Society will be donated to their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. There will also be information booths on the American Cancer Society, a 50/50 raffle and recognition of breast cancer survivors during the game. Tickets can be purchased through the SeaGate Centre Box Office by calling 419-255-3300.
“We are extremely pleased to partner with the American Cancer Society for the 2010 MAC Volleyball Championship,” said Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher. “Our tournament is a wonderful celebration of our conference and the sport of volleyball and this partnership provides our conference family to join together to support such a wonderful organization. Like so many in society, our student-athletes and coaches have many family and friends that have been affected by cancer and we are proud to offer our services to help raise awareness and funds for cancer research.”
In the past century, the American Cancer Society has helped save countless lives by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer. We have made more birthdays – more milestones with loved ones – possible. Against the odds, the Society has turned cancer from a taboo topic into a rallying cry for change. In total, we’ve helped avert more than 767,000 cancer deaths just since the early 1990s – creating about 350 more birthdays each and every day.
“We are very excited to partner with the MAC Volleyball Championship Tournament. Together, we are working to save lives and create a world with more birthdays,” said Michelle Sprott, spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. “Cancer patients and families can call the American Cancer Society anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 for free information, help and support.”

About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, about 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
