Volleyball Coach Christy Johnson-Lynch to Receive Impact Award from
Iowa State University Alumni Association
Ames, IOWA – During its annual Homecoming celebration, the Iowa State University Alumni Association will confer upon Christy Johnson-Lynch of Ames the Impact Award, one of the most prestigious awards given by the ISU Alumni Association.
The Impact Award was established by the ISU Alumni Association board of directors in 2000 to recognize individuals, businesses, organizations, or units whose programs or accomplishments brought broad recognition to the university and increased the involvement of ISU constituents in the life of the university during the year prior to being nominated.
Johnson-Lynch is the head coach of the Iowa State University volleyball team, which finished the 2009 season ranked sixth nationally and as one of only eight programs in the country to reach the NCAA regional semifinals in three consecutive seasons. Last year Johnson-Lynch was named the Asics/Volleyball Magazine National Coach of the Year, the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year, and the AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year. The Cyclones, who were 36-111 in the five seasons prior to Johnson-Lynch’s arrival, have posted a winning record in every season under the direction of the former Nebraska All-American.
The other recipient of the 2010 Impact Award is Ulrike Passe of Ames.
Recipients of the 2010 Homecoming awards will be honored at the 79th Annual Honors & Awards Ceremony at Ames’ Cornerstone Church on Friday, Oct. 29 at 1:30 p.m. The event was moved from ISU’s Scheman Building due to concerns about the status of flood recovery efforts in that facility. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information on the 2010 Honors & Awards Ceremony, visit http://www.isualum.org/honorsandawards.
