SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Throughout October, also known as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month," all eight WCC volleyball teams will be hosting a "Dig Pink" match to help promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds to benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Breast Cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies.
Each WCC team will wear its official WCC Dig Pink T-shirts and reach out to fans and local communities to fundraise money as part of the nationwide effort supported by the Side-Out Foundation, which was established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches around the common goal of increasing breast cancer education and finding a cure.
The Saint Mary's Gaels hosted the first 2010 WCC Dig Pink match in Moraga, CA last Saturday and invited fans to donate online and participate in both a raffle and silent auction. Today, Pepperdine will be hosting its Dig Pink match at 7 PM and will be giving away 100 free Dig Pink T-shirts to the first 100 women in the stands, while USF will be hosting its Art & Wine Festival on Saturday at 5 PM (before the USF-SMC conference matchup) in the upper level hospitality area of War Memorial Gym. Admission to the festival is $25.
To join the WCC in the Dig Pink campaign, attend any of the upcoming WCC Dig Pink matches or donate directly online at digpink.org.
