NCAA Volleyball 2010: Liberty to Enter Big South Tourney as No. 1 Seed
LYNCHBURG, Va. – After clinching their fourth-straight regular-season conference title, the Liberty Lady Flames will go into next week’s 2010 Big South Volleyball Championship as the No. 1 seed. Liberty will face No. 8 seed Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m. on Thursday in Rock Hill, S.C.
Liberty, which finished the regular season at 23-8 overall and 14-2 in conference play, has been the No. 1 seed on five different occasions. The Lady Flames have won the tournament three times (1997, 2007 and 2008) when playing as the top seed.
High Point finished the conference slate with a 13-3 record and will be the No. 2 seed, while UNC Asheville went 11-5 to earn the No. 3 slot. Winthrop marked a 10-6 record to pick up the No. 4 seed and Coastal Carolina finished the Big South season at 7-9 to pick up the No. 5 seed. Charleston Southern finished the season at 6-10 in the Big South to land at the No. 6 spot, and Radford’s 5-11 league record was good for the No. 7 seed. Gardner-Webb rounds out the seeding at No. 8 as it went 0-16 in league play.
The 2010 Big South Volleyball Championship begins Thursday, Nov. 18 with four matches, and concludes with the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Rock Hill, S.C. The Big South’s tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The full championship schedule is as follows:

Match 1: No. 2 High Point vs. No. 7 Radford, Noon
Match 2: No. 3 UNC Asheville vs. No. 6 Charleston Southern, 2:30 p.m.
Match 3: No. 1 Liberty vs. No. 8 Gardner-Webb, 5 p.m.
Match 4: No. 4 Winthrop vs. No. 5 Coastal Carolina, 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 19 (Semifinals) – Rock Hill, S.C.Match 5: Match 1 winner vs. Match 2 winner, 4:30 p.m.
Match 6: Match 3 winner vs. Match 4 winner, 7 p.m.
