Manhattan Picked Fourth In MAAC Preseason Poll Jaspers Open Season at Asics Invitational On Aug. 26
RIVERDALE, N.Y. - A year after finished tied for third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a school-record 11 conference wins, the Manhattan College volleyball team has been picked fourth in the 2011 MAAC Preseason Poll. Two-time defending MAAC champion was the near-unanimous pick to repeat in the poll of the league's 10 head coaches.
Niagara is the preseason MAAC favorite after receiving 98 points in the poll. The Purple Eagles also landed three players on the Preseason All-MAAC Team, including Preseason Player of the Year Michelle James. Canisius was second with 81 points, followed by Fairfield (73). The Jaspers, led by 2010 MAAC Coach of the Year Mark Jones, tallied 67 points. After Manhattan, Marist (63), Siena (49), Iona (46), Loyola (40), Rider (19) and Saint Peter's (14) rounded out the poll.
Manhattan, which returns five starters and eight letterwinners from last year's squad, opens the 2011 campaign with the Asics Invitational on Aug. 26-27. The Jaspers take on Radford on Aug. 26, then face Norfolk State and host Hofstra the following day.
