OVC Preseason Volleyball Tournament Schedule For Austin Peay

 

Austin Peay's 2011 campaign begins the Alabama Tournament, August 26-27.

The Lady Govs for their season's second tournament, head to Murfreesboro for the Blue Raider Bash.

The regular season's third week has the Lady Govs traveling to Indianapolis for the Butler Invitational.

 

 

OVC Preseason Volleyball Tournament Schedule For Eastern Illinois

OVC Preseason Volleyball Tournament Schedule For Eastern Kentucky

 

Eastern Kentucky University opens the season on August 26 when they play at the Pitt Panther Invitational in Pittsburgh.

The following weekend, Sept. 2-4, Eastern will participate in the South Florida Invitational.

The non-conference portion of the schedule concludes on Sept. 9-10 at the 2011 Owls Classic hosted by Kennesaw State.

 

 

OVC Preseason Volleyball Tournament Schedule For Morehead State

The Eagles begin in late August with the MSU Eagle Challenge at Wetherby Gym.  The Eagles will participate in the Texas Tech Invitational on Sept. 2-3.
Following the TTU event, the Eagles head back to Morehead to host the MSU Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational on Sept. 9-10.

 

 

OVC Preseason Volleyball Tournament Schedule For Murray State

MSU will compete in the first tournament in the Belmont Invitational (Aug. 26-27). ent after facing Sacramento State.

The second tournament is the Marriott Volley Brawl (Sep. 2-3).

The final tournament of the year will be the Saluki Invite (Sep. 9-10).

 

 

 

OVC Preseason Volleyball Tournament Schedule For Southern Illinois

SIUE's non-conference slate begins Aug. 26 and 27 with the SIUE Invitational.

The Cougars also compete in two other tournaments. SIUE travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Indiana State Invitational. SIUE's third tournament of the season is at Bowling Green, Ohio.

 

 

 

OVC Preseason Volleyball Tournament Schedule For Tennessee Tech

 

The team will open the year with the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Aug. 26-27.

The Golden Eagles will follow up with the Lipscomb Invitational Sept. 2-3 in Nashville. The Golden Eagles wrap up tourney play at the UT Chattanooga Invitational Sept. 10-11.

 

 

OVC Preseason Volleyball Tournament Schedule For UT Martin

Before hosting the Skyhawk Invitational tournament, UT Martin will open its season in Starkville, Miss., in a tournament hosted by Mississippi State of the Southeastern Conference.

After the First State Skyhawk Invitational, the Skyhawks will travel to Kansas City, Missouri to take part in a UMKC volleyball tournament.

"We have a great nonconference schedule lined up this fall," said Egbert. "The high level of competition we will face definitely is going to prepare us for conference play."

"Our matches in Murfreesboro will be a true test for us," Egbert said. "We will be up against some very good teams but it will be a great opportunity for us to showcase our abilities on the volleyball court."

"We are returning a great core from our team last year that has a lot of experience competing in the OVC," said Egbert. "Even though we are facing a tough schedule in a very good conference, I know this great group of women will guide us to where we want to be at the end of the year."

"This schedule could be one of the most challenging we’ve ever put together in my tenure at MSU,” said Gordon, whose program is coming off a record-setting OVC championship season in 2010.

“I really believe our fans are in for a treat with the home matches we’ve scheduled. Ten of our first 14 matches are at home as well, so that should help us develop our identity early and be able to be in our comfort zone early in the season. I feel like with the players we have returning, we will have a competitive team, and I think this schedule can only help us get better every match as we once again battle for another OVC championship.”

OVC Preseason Volleyball Quotes From Murray State Head Volleyball Coach David Schwepker

“This season we will see some strong competition from our non-conference and conference schedule,” said head coach David Schwepker.

“We will have a new challenge with SIU Edwardsville in the league, but that is why we played them both in Murray and in Edwardsville, Ill., in 2010.”

“I am glad that the schedule worked out for us to be able to face Belmont the year before they join the OVC,” Schwepker said. “The match will give us a chance to see how we match up with our future league opponent.”

“We’ve tried to create a challenging pre-conference schedule and I think we’ve accomplished that,” said Blair.

“This is the way we typically start our season,” Blair said about the three weekend tourneys on the road. “Being on the road early doesn't really affect us that much. We're not gone for any long trips or cross country travel, and we're usually back home by late Saturday. We play in our area against teams that most of our area kids are familair with, and they like that.”

“There are four new head coaches in our league this year, plus a new team in SIU Edwardsville," Blair said. "We have not played them, so we have to learn their personnel and their system. That's a new challenge."

“Of course, the coveted prize is the tournament championship,” Blair said. “We want to play our best volleyball at the end of the season, but we're obviouly not ignoring our pre-conference matches. We'll find out the very first weekend exactly what we're made of."

"I think our schedule is competitive. It's a schedule that is going to challenge us now and prepare us for the future," said Johnson.

"Our pre-season tournaments will be a challenging start to our season. They will battle-test our team, allow us to measure ourselves against many regional competitors, and propel us into our first OVC schedule," said Johnson.

"It's an interesting schedule with plenty of challenges, but it's designed for us to be playing in the OVC Championship Tournament," Blair said. "The tournaments we open with are all excellent tournaments with a real high level of competition. Every team we play is going to contend for their conference championship. We do that in the hope that it will prepare us for our conference championship."

OVC Preseason Volleyball Quotes From UT Martin Head Volleyball Coach Darren McClure

 

"We have always traveled to tournaments and this year the tournament just happened to fit right in our schedule," said McClure, who will enter his fourth season at the helm in 2011. "If it weren't for this tournament, we wouldn't be at home until the last part of September. Also we will miss less class by being at home for this tournament."



"The tournament field is scattered with good, solid teams," McClure said. "It will make for a competitive environment and will prepare us for Ohio Valley Conference play."


"The OVC schedule shapes up for us to be competitive," McClure said. "After starting on the road we have back-to-back weekends at home. With our early non-conference tournament experiences, we feel we will be able to compete and hopefully come out with some good quality wins."


"SIU Edwardsville is a good addition to the OVC," McClure said. "They bring a unique dynamic in that it changes our travel partners on the weekends and what we have been used to for so many years."
 

"As a conference, we would love to mold after the MVC or Sun Belt," McClure said. "Over the last couple of years they have earned at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament. The OVC can build up that same way - it starts at each individual school to help boost our RPI."
