BUFFALO, NY – Fourth-year head coach Todd Kress has announced his schedule for the upcoming 2012 season. The Bulls will take part in four tournaments and will have 12 non-conference matches in addition to their 16-match conference schedule.
The Bulls begin the season at home as they host the UB Invitational beginning on Friday, August 24. Buffalo will begin the tournament by playing cross-town rival Canisius at 1:30 pm and will then face San Jose State later that night. UB concludes play on Saturday by hosting Oral Roberts.
Buffalo gets its first taste of life on the road beginning on Aug. 31 when they head to South Bend, IN for the Notre Dame Invite. The Bulls face Eastern Kentucky on Friday and then the host Fighting Irish on Saturday night. On Sunday, Aug. 2, the Bulls will face UAB.
UB remains on the road the following weekend as it heads west on I-90 for a weekend at the Cleveland State Invite. The Bulls play the host Vikings on Friday night Sep. 7 and will then play two games on Saturday beginning with Oakland at 10:00 am. The Bulls meet Eastern Kentucky for the second straight week at 4:30 pm.
Buffalo wraps up non-conference play just like it started by hosting a tournament, this time the Blue and White Classic. The Bulls will face Dartmouth on Friday Sep. 14 at 7:00 pm and then Hartford on Saturday at 12:00 pm. UB concludes the tournament by hosting Syracuse on Saturday night.
“We put together another schedule that will have us playing some very good teams early on,” said Kress. “We will use those contests to prepare for what should be a very exciting MAC season.”
Buffalo’s Mid-American Conference schedule will begin on Thursday, September 20 when they travel to Akron and Toledo in the opening weekend. UB will open home conference play on Friday, Sep. 28 against Miami (OH). The 16-match conference slate will see the Bulls play each member of the East Division (Akron, Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami and Ohio) twice, both home and away, and each member of the West Division once (home against Ball State, Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan and on the road against Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan). The Bulls end the regular season home against Kent State on Sat., Nov. 10.
For the second straight year, only the top eight teams in the conference will make the MAC Tournament, which is located at the SPIRE Sports Complex in Geneva, OH. The tournament will take place from November 15-17.
