Women's Volleyball: Waves NCAA Tournament Bound, Face Dayton in First Round
MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s volleyball team is NCAA Tournament bound, and will face Dayton in the first round on Friday, Nov. 30 in Eugene, Ore.
Oregon, the fifth seed overall, will host the Waves and the Flyers in addition to Northern Colorado. The overall winner will head to the Omaha, Neb. regional on Dec. 7-8.
A record six West Coast Conference schools earned a spot in the 64-team field, including BYU, San Diego, Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount.
The Cougars and the Broncos, as well as the Waves, could all potentially meet in Omaha should they all win twice next weekend.
Pepperdine finished the season 20-11 and tied for fifth with LMU in the conference standings with an 8-8 record. The Waves faced Dayton back in August during the season-opening Dayton Flyer Classic, and suffered a 3-1 loss in front of a large partisan crowd.
Overall, Pepperdine is 2-1 all-time versus the Flyers.
Dayton, currently ranked #13, is 26-4 on the season and claimed both regular season and tournament championships in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers went undefeated in the conference during the year at 14-0 and won both matches in the A-10 Championships.
The Waves are 17-21 all time in the NCAA Tournament. Their best finishes came in 2002 and 2011 when they reached the regional finals.
