Nancy Cole Named MVP at USAV Junior Olympic Championship

Nancy Cole, an incoming Rice freshman volleyball player from Pasadena, Texas, was named Most Valuable Player of the USAV Junior Olympic Championship as her club team, AVA18 Performance, won the 18-U National Gold Division in Miami, Fla. AVA18 Performance won each of its 11 matches by 2-0 scores including the championship match when it defeated Santa Barbara 18-Blue 25-20 and 25-18.

Cole, a 6-3 middle blocker from Memorial High School in Pasadena, was a two-time MVP of her high school squad and three-time first team All-District 22-5A. In 2008, Cole registered set a school-record with 37 kills vs. Spring High School. 

She joins a Rice volleyball team that finished 23-8 in 2008 and played in the NCAA tournament. The Owls return four starters from last season’s squad.

2008 Junior Events Schedule:

This year we are is pleased to host tournaments at the River Plex (Peoria, IL), Eastern Illinois University (Chaleston, IL), Carl Sandburg College (Galesburg), Bradley-Bourbonnais High School, and Dragons Dome (Pekin, IL). Each team that participates in our series will be guaranteed 5-7 matches (2-day event) and 3-5 matches (1-day event). All matches during any of our tournaments will have head officials provided. Our tournaments are all ran in a festival format. Awards will be given to different levels and divisions:

USAV Junior Girls Outdoor Rules Tournaments:

The Eastside Volleyball Club, Inc. is pleased to offer a small tournament series that will be held at the Dragons Dome. The events at the Pekin Dragons Dome will be utilizing outdoor rules. The Dome has an indoor turf surface that rivals NFL indoor stadiums and is a very soft surface.:
