Volleyball team holds benefit to aid former player
Kingston - Sacred Heart High School graduate and pop music and television icon Rich Cronin will return to the school Friday, Feb. 29, for a benefit to aid fellow alumnus and Carver resident Lindsay Briggs. Briggs, a Stonehill College senior who has battled Cystic Fibrosis throughout her life, is currently awaiting a double lung transplant in a Pittsburg hospital.
In response to Briggs’ plight, members of the Sacred Heart High School volleyball team (of which Briggs was a member during her high school years,) have organized a benefit student/faculty game at noon Friday, Feb. 29, in the school’s Flaherty Gymnasium. Briggs, who at 6 feet tall had a formidable presence on the Saint’s volleyball team, was also a successful high school student and continues to maintain academic success at Stonehill.
Her quiet determination has long been an inspiration to her former teammates, coaches and teachers. Student organizers want to honor her determination and demonstrate their support for her and her family. Additionally, the students hope to raise money to assist the Briggs family as they shoulder the financial burden of hotel and other expenses while awaiting Lindsay’s call for a double lung transplant.
Cronin, whose music career was interrupted by a battle against leukemia, will kick off the Sacred Heart benefit when he addresses grades 7-12 students prior to the volleyball game. He will discuss his own personal struggle and ultimately his establishment of the Hope Foundation and www.richcronin.net Cronin’s talk will also include a student and faculty question and answer period.
