TAKING A LOOK BACK
The Mavericks snapped Sam Houston State’s 11-match win streak on Thursday with a three-set sweep, 25-22, 25-19, 25-17. Amanda Aguilera led the Mavericks with 14 kills and 10 digs, her fourth double-double, while Tara Frantz added 10 kills and Raegan Daniel tallied 30 assists, seven digs, five kills and a career-high six blocks. It was the first time Sam Houston State had been swept since Sept. 11, against Central Michigan. The win streak was Sam Houston State’s longest since 1993.
MAVERICK SENIOR CAPTAIN - TEENA SOBCZAK
Senior Teena Sobczak will play her final home match on Saturday for the Mavericks. In her career she has helped lead the Mavericks to 61 victories. On Thursday, Sobczak moved into 14th place on the UTA all-time career digs list with 1,190. In her career, Sobczak has 708 kills, 54 aces, 93 total blocks and 87 assists. She has 36 career double-doubles, six matches with at least 20 kills and 10 matches with over 20 digs.
ON THE HORIZON
UT Arlington finishes the regular season with road tilts at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 13 - 7 p.m.) and UTSA (Nov. 14 - 3:30 p.m.). The Mavericks will look to make a push into the postseason as their final regular season match (at UTSA) will be on the same court as the Southland Conference Tournament (Convocation Center - Nov. 20-22).
UTA IN SOLE POSSESSION OF 4TH PLACE IN THE WEST, SIXTH BEST PERCENTAGE IN SLC
The Mavs helped their postseason cause tremendously on Thursday with a victory over West-leading Sam Houston State. UTA currently owns the sixth best conference winning percentage in the SLC, which at this moment would put them into the SLC Tourney as the five seed. UTA is just percentage points ahead of McNeese State (5-7) and UTSA (5-7). UTA has three SLC matches remaining against opponents who have a combined 13-24 conference record.
UT ARLINGTON VOLLEYBALL HISTORY - MOST POINTS SCORED IN A SINGLE SET
Entering the night, the most points ever scored in a set in a UT Arlington volleyball match was 72, that record was demolished Tuesday, Nov. 3, with a record-setting 80 points scored in the second set between UT Arlington and Texas State with the Bobcats winning the frame 41-39. The previous record was in a match at Huntsville where Sam Houston State defeated the Mavs 37-35 in the fourth set of a Bearkats victory on Oct. 5, 2004. Nine times the Mavericks have had either 66 points or 68 points scored in a set. It is believed that the SLC record is 82 points in a set with Northwestern State defeating Lamar, 42-40, on Sept. 23, 2006 in Beaumont. Earlier this season on Friday, Oct. 23, Manhattan defeated Rider in a set that included 88 points (45-43), which is an NCAA all-time record.

MAVERICKS REMAIN TOUGH AT TEXAS HALL
UT Arlington started the SLC season with a perfect 5-0 record at Texas Hall. After a three-set loss at home to Texas State, UTA rebounded with its sixth home conference win over Sam Houston State on Thursday. The most glaring statistic for the Mavericks at home during SLC play is their advantage at the net averaging 3.12 blocks per set (81 total) compared to their opponents 1.58 bps average (41 total blocks). UTA leads the SLC averaging 2.54 blocks per set.
BLOCKING & WINS GO HAND-IN-HAND
UT Arlington registered its eighth match this season with at least 10.0 team blocks with 10 against Sam Houston State Thursday night. There is a reoccurring theme when the Mavericks tally at least 10 blocks, they win. UTA is 8-0 in matches where they have at least 10 blocks.
DOUBLE VISION
Sophomore Amanda Aguilera notched her 14th career double-double against Sam Houston State with a team-high 14 kills and 10 digs. Aguilera now has 14 career double-doubles, all coming in SLC play. Last season she led the conference with 10 double-doubles in SLC play.
HOLDING TEAMS BELOW A .100 HITTING PERCENTAGE - TIED FOR MOST SINCE 2004
UT Arlington held its seventh opponent below a .100 hitting percentage on Thursday night as Sam Houston State hit just .094. That marks the most times a UTA team has held its opponent below a .100 hitting percentage since the Diane Seymour head coaching era began in 2004. The Mavericks also held seven opponents below a .100 hitting percentage in 2006.
FIVE-SET SUCCESS
UTA improved to 3-1 this season in five-set matches with a victory over Nicholls. The Mavericks are now 17-6 in five-set matches since 2006. UT Arlington is 21-11 during the Diane Seymour head coaching era, which began in 2004.

COACH MOMIC’S COMMENTS FOLLOWING THURSDAY’S PRACTICE
On the importance of the final three regular-season matches
“This weekend’s matches are big, not only for us but for the whole conference. We came to the final two weeks and it looks like there are four or five teams fighting for the conference championship and there are definitely up to seven teams that can beat each other. We really don’t know what’s going to develop with the finish of conference this year, so we’re just going to take this one match at a time. Rice is still able to win the conference. Houston – who we lost to in five – is a team that always peaks late so their definitely will be trouble there. Then our last match is in two weeks, UTEP – which we beat in five in El Paso. Those are three important matches. We’re going to hope for the best and will just for every to develop and see who comes out on top going into the conference tournament.”
On his team’s steady improvement throughout the 2009 season
“It always takes time. You have a different system, you have different people on the team compared to years past, you had seven seniors graduate together. We had to change a lot of things this year, not to mention the addition of a new coaching staff. We had some issues the first couple of weeks with the flu and a few other injuries. But now, enough time has passed and we’ve played so many matches together, things are starting to look better. Losing to Tulsa – one of the best teams right now in the conference – but I think we’re improving and I we’re going to play over the next three weeks into the tournament. We’re peaking at the right time.”
On his team’s goals down the stretch
“We want to win. We have a chance to be champions, to win the tournament and go to the NCAAs. We have a chance to do all of those things. All we can do is prepare, play our best and see what happens. We’re up there with three or four teams, so we’ll see how it plays out in the end.”
