West Hartford, CT – The University of Hartford women’s volleyball team dropped its conference opener by a 3-0 final to the Stony Brook Seawolves at the Reich Family Pavilion on Friday night. Hartford was led in the match by freshman hitter Kami Nethersole (Cortlandt Manor, NY) who finished with eight kills.
Hartford struggled to find its way hitting all night, finishing with only 28 kills and suffering 25 errors in 106 total attempts for a .028 hitting percentage. Nethersole finished the match hitting .160 from the field with four errors in 25 total attacks. Sophomore Michelle Cordell (Orlando, FL) led the Hawks hitting efforts with a .312 hitting percentage, finishing with seven kills and two errors in 16 total hits.
Junior setter Lindsay Ford (Carson, NV) finished with 24 assists, while tying senior Maddison Molyneux (Caledon, Ontario) with a team-high nine digs. Also leading the way defensively was Cordell who finished with eight digs. Hartford had just one block in the match, a solo block from senior Erin Macro (Lincoln,RI), who was honored prior to the match for achieving her 1,000thcareer kill in the Hawks loss to Columbia on September 26.
The Seawolves were led by Ashley Headen and Harmonie Calinda who both finished with a match-high 10 kills. The two both hit better than .300 with each finishing with two errors, Headen taking 20 total attacks (.400) and Calinda taking 26 total swings (.308). As a team, the Seawolves hit .315 for the match with 38 kills and only nine errors in 92 total hits.
Hartford will continue conference play when they welcome the UMBC Retrievers to the Sports Center on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
