Women's College Volleyball Game Information Week 8: BUCKNELL VOLLEYBALL HOSTS LAFAYETTE, LEHIGH IN PACKED WEEKEND
Match vs. Lafayette to be Broadcast on Bison Vision
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball has a full calendar this weekend, hosting Lafayette and Lehigh as well as a pair of community events. The Bison (6-11, 2-3) will take on the Leopards (11-7, 2-3) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 in Davis Gym. The match is also Think Pink Night in an effort to promote breast cancer awareness. Saturday’s 5 p.m. matchup with the Mountain Hawks is Empowering Everyone’s Kids (EEK) Night, an event aimed at encouraging local youth to become more involved in volleyball.
Live video on Bison Vision will be available for the match with Lafayette on Friday, while live stats on GameTracker will be available for both contests at BucknellBison.com.
ABOUT THE BISON
- Bucknell will be sporting pink jerseys in their match against Lafayette on Friday as a part of Think Pink Night. Pink t-shirts, sponsored by Evangelical Community Hospital’s Women’s Resource Center, will also be tossed into the stands.
- Bucknell has had a great amount of success on the blocking front this year. Through the first five league matches, the Bison are the top-ranked blocking team in the Patriot League at 2.35 total blocks/set.
- Ragin Jackson (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and Heidi Kamp (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) have a lot of to do with the team’s success at the net. The duo holds the top two spots individually. Jackson is first at 1.12 blocks/set, while Kamp sits second at 1.06/set.
- The Orange and Blue are glad to be returning to friendly Davis Gym. When on its home court, Bucknell leads it opponents in average kills, service aces and digs. The team trails in each of those categories on the road. Interestingly, the opposite is true of blocks per set. The Bison have proved to be a better a blocking team on the road than at home.
- Entering the weekend, senior co-captain Allison Gittings (Dayton, Md./Glenelg) has played in 97 matches, putting her on the cusp of a career milestone. That total is also a high among current Bison.
ABOUT THE LEOPARDS
- Bucknell leads in the all-time series with Lafayette, 30-19. The two teams split meetings in 2008 with the home team winning each time. Bucknell was swept in Easton, Pa., but rebounded for a 3-1 win in Lewisburg later in the season. Kaitlin Segal (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Harvard Westlake) had a big-time performance in Davis Gym, posting 20 kills and 15 digs in the win against the Leopards last year.
- Lafayette is 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League this season. The Leopards recently defeated Patriot League rival Lehigh (3-1), while their other league win came against Holy Cross (3-0) earlier this month. On Wednesday, they fell in straight sets to NJIT in Easton.
- Cara Mulholland leads the attack for Lafayette with 202 kills (3.16/set) this season. Her total has been helped greatly by Ashton Rossi’s 578 assists (9.17/set). Rossi also has the team high in service aces with 20. Defensively, Lafayette boasts the Patriot League’s leader in digs in Kari Horn. The senior libero has 254 on the season. At net is Alana Taylor with 38 total blocks (0.62/set).
ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
- Bucknell trails Lehigh in the all-time series, 36-21. The Bison got two wins closer to evening the series, however, as Bucknell won both matches last year. Segal posted a double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs in the 3-1 victory on the road, while Kamp had a team-best 13 kills in the sweep at home.
- Lehigh enters the weekend 10-10 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League this year. Before coming to Lewisburg, the team will take on Colgate on Friday night. The Mountain Hawks’ league victories have come against Navy (3-1), American (3-1) and Holy Cross (3-0), putting them in a third-place tie in the league standings.
- The Mountain Hawks have two players with more than 200 kills already this season in Angelika Kopacz and Mo McReynolds. Kopacz has posted 229 (3.01/set) entering the weekend, while McReynolds comes in at 203 (2.67/set). Brittany Dickinson is the team’s assists leader with 468 (6.24/set). At the net defensively, Chelsea Sheridan is tops in total blocks with 45 (0.60/set).
- Lehigh leads the Patriot League in aces this season, serving up 1.89/set through the first five league matches.
