Senior Ashley Hamilton was named MVP and won two other team awards as the Eastern Washington University volleyball team had their 2009 season banquet on Jan. 10.
Besides MVP honors, she was named Teammate of the Year, which is an award voted on by the players and is a reflection of that student-athlete and the impact on her teammates.
Hamilton also won the Eagle Award, which is earned by the player who exemplifies the qualities that are valued by the team as a whole, including leadership, commitment and work ethic. She also won that award in 2008.
Eastern also presented special awards for Hamilton and junior Sara Todorovich for tying an NCAA Division I record with 1.000 hitting efficiency in separate matches. Hamilton had 12 kills in 12 attempts with no errors, which equals the fourth-best hitting performance in the history of NCAA Division I Volleyball. That performance on Oct. 23 against Weber State was the best performance in Division I since the 2005 season.
Todorovich had 10 kills in 10 attempts on Nov. 14 against Northern Arizona, which equals the seventh-best hitting performance in Division I. It is the first time in Division I women's volleyball history that teammates have accomplished this feat in the same season.
The Most Inspirational honors went to senior setter Amanda Yausie, for being an energetic player who showed a high level of enthusiasm every time she stepped on the court. She also won the award in 2008.
Junior Chenoa Coviare was named Most Improved for her performance on the court.
The banquet was also the final farewell for seniors JaNae Mortensen, Hamilton, Yausie and Hayley Hills.
