Bowling Green, Ohio - St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School senior Kaitlyn Skinner has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Bowling Green State University beginning in the fall of 2010. Skinner, at 6-foot-2, is a native of Cambridge, Ontario and is the daughter of Kevin and Barbara Skinner.
“I’m very excited to add Kaitlyn to our volleyball family,” Head Coach Denise Van De Walle said. “She brings good size and depth to the middle position. She plays with passion and we liked that about her from the start. Her work ethic is terrific, she is a talented blocker, and she is a very bright student with strong character. She will fit in with our current team exceptionally well and will vie for playing time as she learns our system. She will become a dominant front row player for us.”
In four years of high school volleyball, Skinner’s teams went 56-8 and won a pair of league championships. As a senior, her team went a perfect 16-0 and she was named team Most Valuable Player. She was a member of the District 8 All-Star First Team as both a junior and senior. Skinner also showed her athleticism as a member of the school’s basketball and track and field teams and she holds the school record in the high jump. She was a two-year captain on both the volleyball and basketball teams.
Skinner also played for the Kitchener-Waterloo Predators Volleyball Club and the team finished as bronze medalists at the Canadian National Open in May and had a fifth-place finish at the 18U Ontario Championship.
