Comments from PrepVolleyball.com’s John Tawa on the class …
The Tigers are bringing a very physical, quick and exciting class to Baton Rouge for 2010. All five recruits should come in and compete for major time as LSU defends its SEC Title and bids to remain one of the elite programs in the country. Elliott is a lightning fast middle blocker for Texas Tornados who will jump right in with LSU’s fast-paced offense. Pursley, a National Merit Scholar Finalist, is a gifted athlete and very cerebral setter. Striebel hails from Cardinal Gibbons High, a North Carolina volleyball factory. She is an excellent passing outside hitter and will be able to terminate at an even higher level after diving into LSU’s strength and conditioning program. Willis is an explosive athlete who has a whip for a left arm and should be able to terminate balls from both the front and back row. Last but certainly not least, Steele, who was named to the 2009 Texas All State team, is solid and consistent in the back row.
Under head coach Fran Flory, LSU is one of only 20 programs to appear in each of the last five NCAA Tournaments. The Tigers open the 2010 season with Pacific, Siena and Texas A&M on August 27-28 as part of the Texas A&M Invitational.
