Fawcett, Harmotto and Hodge Aid U.S. Women in Montreux Volley Masters

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., June 8, 2010 – Three former Penn State women’s volleyball players are competing with the U.S. Women’s National Team in the 26th Annual Montreux Volley Masters Tournament in Montreux, Switzerland. Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.), Christa Harmotto(Aliquippa, Pa.) and Nicole Fawcett (Zanesfield, Ohio) were selected to the 14-player roster by head coach Hugh McCutcheon.
The U.S. Women opened tournament play with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-21) sweep of Japan in Pool A on Tuesday, June 8. The team is back in action on June 9 at 10:30 a.m. ET (4:30 p.m. local time) against Germany before concluding pool play on June 11 against Russia at 3 p.m. ET (9 p.m. local time).
Hodge was second on the team against Japan tallying 12 points on 10 kills and two blocks, while Harmotto rounded out the scoring with three kills and a block for four points. McCutcheon started Harmotto at middle blocker and Hodge at outside hitter.
Fawcett, Harmotto and Hodge were four-year members of the Penn State women’s volleyball team under head coach Russ Rose. Fawcett and Harmotto aided the Nittany Lions in back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2007 and 2008, while Hodge guided PSU to an unprecedented third straight in 2009.
