Mid American Conference Releases Preseason Volleyball Poll
Bowling
Green, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference released the 2010 Volleyball
Coaches Preseason Poll today and Bowling Green State University was
picked to finish fifth in the MAC
East Division. Ohio
received 10 first-place votes and was selected first in the East, while
Miami received the other two votes and was picked second. Buffalo was
third and Kent State fourth, followed
by BGSU and Akron. In the West, Central Michigan picked up seven
first-place votes and was picked first, followed closely behind by
Western Michigan, which got the other five first-place votes. Northern
Illinois, Toledo, Ball State, and Eastern Michigan rounded
out the division. Bowling
Green went 13-20 a year ago and finished 5-11 in the MAC East Division,
snapping a string of three consecutive 20-win seasons. The Falcons did
upset rival Toledo in the first
round of the MAC Tournament as Head Coach Denise Van De Walle earned
her 500th career victory. The
2010 season will be the final year of volleyball competition in
Anderson Arena as Bowling Green is completing work on the Stroh Center, a
new convocation center that will be
the home of the volleyball, basketball, and gymnastics programs. The
BGSU Athletics Department is holding a year-long celebration of Anderson
Arena titled “Closing The Doors Of The House That Roars.” In honor of the 35th
and final year of volleyball competition in Anderson Arena, Bowling
Green is offering season tickets for $35. The Falcons play 12 home
matches during
the 2010 season and the offer is almost 50 percent off the walk-up
price. Bowling
Green opens the 2010 season at the Michigan State Invitational Aug.
27-28. The Falcons will play their home opener on Sept. 10 against
Cornell at 7 p.m. for the Best Western
Falcon Plaza Invitational. BGSU then plays the next day against IPFW at
11:30 a.m. and against Oakland at 7 p.m.
