University of Houston Volleyball Player Lucy Charuk Named To Volleyball All-C-USA Preseason Team
Junior Earns Selection Despite Sitting Out 2009 Season
HOUSTON – University of Houston junior middle blocker Lucy Charuk
was named to the All-Conference USA Preseason Team, it was announced by
the league office on Thursday. The award is voted on by each of the
league’s 12 head coaches.
Charuk earned a preseason selection despite sitting out the 2009 season following shoulder surgery.
“With Lucy sitting out all of last season and the league’s head coaches
still voting her to the preseason team shows a lot about her strength of
play,” head coach Molly Alvey said.
Following her sophomore season, the Tswwassen, British Columbia native,
was named a 2008 AVCA All-Midwest Region selection and was an
All-America honorable mention. Charuk averaged 2.56 kills and 1.3 blocks
per set and she finished the year ranked third in C-USA in blocks and
fourth with a .348 hitting percentage.
“Lucy is a great floor leader on this team and I expect her to be a
major contributing factor in the success of the program this year,”
Alvey said.
Charuk and Alvey will take to the court on Aug. 27-28 when they travel
to Austin, Texas to open the 2010 season. They will kickoff the
tournament against TCU at noon and McNeese State at 4 p.m. on Aug. 27,
closing out against Texas at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 28.
