Georgia State Volleyball Team Falls to VCU, 3-0
Richmond, Va. - The Georgia State volleyball team fell to VCU, 3-0, on
Friday night at the Siegel Center. Redshirt-junior Vineece Verdun led
the Panthers with eight kills.
Georgia State fell to 10-12 overall and 4-4 in the CAA with the loss.
VCU, which won its fourth match in a row, improved to 8-16 and 6-2 in
conference action.
After dropping the first set 25-10, State rallied in the second and
third sets, dropping the two by scores of 25-19 and 28-26. The third set
featured 13 ties and six lead changes as State battled to extend the
match.
Verdun capped a tough night for the Panthers, leading the squad with a
.280 attack percentage, as the Rams held State to a .080 attack
percentage for the match.
Sophomore Jamiee Freeman added five kills and six digs, while junior
Muki Kangwa scored five kills and two total blocks.
Freshman Veronica Chandre led State with 15 assists, while
redshirt-junior Audrey Cantrell scored a team-high 12 digs.
VCU scored a match-high 12 kills from Kristin Boyd in the win. Boyd led
the squad with a .429 attack percentage, as the Rams hit .280 as a
team.
Mariel Frey and Courtney Hott added seven kills each, while Marisa Low
had a match-high 21 digs.
The Panthers will return to action on Saturday night at William & Mary.

State will return home next Saturday to face UNC Wilmington at 5 p.m.
The match against the Seahawks will serve as the annual Dig for a Cure
match with the team wearing pink and raising money for breast cancer
awareness. Admission to all volleyball matches is free of charge.
