No. 17 Dayton Clinches A-10 Title in 3-0 Win at Charlotte 49ers Volleyball Team
CHARLOTTE -- Sophomore Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) recorded a match-high 14 kills but it was not enough to tackle No. 17 Dayton as the Charlotte 49ers dropped a 3-0 decision (25-21, 25-17, 25-12) to the Flyers Sunday afternoon at Halton Arena in Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball action. The Flyers took the outright regular season title with win and continue a march through the league with a perfect 13-0 conference mark to go with a 22-3 overall record. The 49ers fall back to 14-14 overall, 5-8 in conference play with two matches to go.
Charlotte played a tough opening set, despite not taking the lead. The 49ers were able to sideout the Flyers at 63 percent and hit for a .200 attack percentage. Rouse had four kills, with three other 49ers recording three kills in the first. The Niners were able to close to a 22-20 margin but could not close the set.
The second set was tight early until the Flyers managed a 5-0 run to jump out to a 9-5 lead. Despite a pair of 3-0 runs by the Niners in the set, Dayton kept Charlotte at bay by hitting for a .357 attack percentage in the second. Rouse led all players with eight kills in the second.
Dayton recorded a 91 percent sideout percentage in the third and held Charlotte to just eight kills and eight errors for a zero attack percentage in the frame to take the match.

The 49ers remain in seventh place in the league standings, a game behind George Washington and Fordham, which are tied for fifth. Six teams earn a berth into the A-10 Tournament in two weeks.
The Niners will host Rhode Island next Friday night at 7 p.m. for Senior Night, when seniors Kara Raker (Woodstock, Ga. / Etowah HS) and Kat Hicks (Kaneohe, Hawai’i / Kalaheo HS) play in the final home match of their careers.
