KINGSTON, R.I. - Junior Michelle Matia continued her hot hitting streak in Xavier's 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-17) sweep of Rhode Island Sunday afternoon, posting a .500 attack percentage. Matia and freshman Sarah Brown led the Musketeers with eight kills apiece in the victory.
Also for XU, sophomore Stephanie Vorherr got under a match-high 16 digs and senior Claire Paszkiewicz set a match-high 31 assists. Matia recorded three solo blocks and junior Kathryn Traut added seven kills.
Xavier (17-8, 10-3 A-10) outhit Rhode Island .257 to .097 and won the battle of the kills 43-26. The digs were nearly even with the Musketeers holding the slight 39-38 advantage in that category. As a team, XU served up six aces to URI's five.
Rhode Island (13-13, 4-9 A-10) had three players with six kills on the afternoon, including Kayla Wilson who added five digs and an assist. Ashley Tennant posted a team-high nine digs and Candice Kolkka had 18 assists.
The Musketeers return to action on Nov. 12 for their final home contest of the regular season. XU will host Temple at 1 p.m. in Cintas Center.
