Three USC Women's Volleyball Players Earn 2010 All-America Honors
KANSAS CITY – Three USC women’s volleyball players have landed on the 2010 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American teams. Junior outside hitter Alex Jupiter (Paris, France/Redondo Union HS) was named All-America first team, making her a two-time All-American after earning third team honors last year. Sophomore setter Kendall Bateman (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) earned All-America second team honors while junior middle blocker Lauren Williams (Houston, Texas/Stratford HS) earned All-America third team honors.
This was the first All-America honor for Bateman and Williams.
Jupiter is the first USC player to earn All-America first team honors since Asia Kaczor in 2007 and three All-Americans for USC are the most since 2004 (Emily Adams, Keao Burdine and Bibiana Candelas).
This season, Jupiter has 524 kills (4.44 kps) while hitting .302 with 38 service aces (0.32 saps), 292 digs (2.47 dps), 77 blocks (33 solo, 0.65 bps) and 617.0 points (5.23 pps). For Pac-10 Conference matches this season, Jupiter recorded 326 kills (4.47 kps) while hitting .298 with 19 aces (0.26 saps), 182 digs (2.49 dps), 50 blocks (19 solo, 0.68 bps) and 379.5 points (5.20 pps). She was named to the 2010 All-Pac-10 Conference Team, the second straight year she received the honor.
Bateman has 1,539 assists (12.41 aps) this season with 272 digs (2.19 dps) and 48 blocks (0.39 bps). She received 2010 All-Pac-10 Conference Team honorable mention recognition. With Bateman handling the team's offense, USC is sixth in the nation this season for hitting percentage (.295). She is currently third in the nation for assists per set after leading the nation last season.
Williams has 280 kills (2.41 kps) with 30 digs (0.26 dps) and a team-leading 112 blocks (0.97 bps) this season. She was named All-Pac-10 Conference for the first time this season. She is sixth in the nation with a .425 hitting percentage.
USC plays California in a national semifinal match tomorrow (Dec. 16) from the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The match starts approximately 8 p.m. Central (6 p.m. Pacific) and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 (HD) and ESPN3.com. A live audio webcast will be online at usctrojans.com.
