2011 Hofstra Volleyball Schedule Released
Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Volleyball Coach Kristina Hernandez announced today her squad's 2011 schedule, a slate that features four inseason tournaments and a pair of teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
"We are excited about being able to host two tournaments at the beginning of the season this year," commented Hernandez. "With all of our new additions to the team it will help us get acclimated before we hit the road. This schedule has a great mix of opponents for us, and our non-conference tournaments will help prepare us for the Colonial Athletic Association portion of the schedule."
The season gets underway in late August when Hofstra hosts the Asics Invitational on August 26-27. The two-day four-team tournament will feature Hofstra, along with Norfolk State, Radford and Manhattan.
After traveling to its first road match of the season at Siena on August 30, the Pride host its second tournament of the season on September 2-3. Joining the Pride for the Hofstra Invitational will be Fairfield, St. Francis (NY), Princeton and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
Following its second tournament of the season, Hofstra will then host Big East member Rutgers on September 6 before traveling to the 2011 JQH/Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Tournament at Missouri State on September 8-10. A quality field awaits the Pride in "The Show Me State" as Hofstra will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Kansas State, Missouri State and Arkansas State. The host Bears qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season and compiled a 21-10 record.
A quick jaunt to Seton Hall on September 13 is followed by a trip out west to take part in the Aggie Invitational at UC Davis. Hofstra will face Seattle, Air Force and the host Aggies in the two-day affair on September 16-17.
Another roadtrip to New Jersey is next on the slate for the Pride as Hofstra heads to NJIT on September 22 before beginning Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play on September 24 with a home match against Northeastern. The 14-match conference schedule concludes on November 13 with a road match at Georgia State. The Pride does have one non-conference match sprinkled in during the CAA portion of the schedule as Hofstra will head to Brooklyn to face Long Island on October 5.
Hofstra has two matches scheduled against Delaware, the defending conference champion, as the Pride will face the Blue Hens on October 2 at home and then in Newark on November 4. Delaware went 26-6 in 2010.
The CAA Championship will be held at the highest seed on November 18-20.
