Taylor Evans named assistant coach of the Pioneers
DENVER - Taylor Evans has been named assistant volleyball coach at the University of Denver, head coach Beth Kuwata announced today.
Evans' main responsibilities at DU will be on-court training, match and practice preparation, managing clinics and summer camps, recruiting and travel.
Evans joins the DU volleyball staff after serving one year as a volunteer assistant coach to Beth Launiere at the University of Utah in 2010. He helped the Utes to a 17-win season and worked primarily with the outside hitters. Evans helped Morgan Odale earn Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year honors. Odale earned the award after finishing in the MWC's top 10 in six different statistical categories.
"Taylor's successful playing experience both at BYU and in Europe will be a tremendous benefit to our players and program," Kuwata said. "In addition, he has been coached and has coached with some of the best volleyball minds in the business. Taylor's enthusiasm and knowledge of the game will be invaluable to our program."
Prior to Utah, Evans served as the volunteer assistant coach to Barry Goldberg at American University from 2006-08. He helped American to a 75-24 mark in three seasons, including a 40-2 record in the Patriot League and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Evans was a four-year letterwinner at BYU from 2003-06. The Cougars captured the 2004 NCAA men's volleyball title during Evans' sophomore year and finished runner-up during his freshman year in 2003. The two-year starter holds the Cougars' all-time record for service aces. He played professionally in Europe from 2008-09.
He is the co-founder and co-director of the Utah Elite Volleyball Club. Evans earned his bachelor's degree in economics from BYU in 2006 and is pursuing his master's degree in economics.
