Alvey Readies For Trip To Europe With A2 Junior National Team
National Team To Compete In European Global Challenge
HOUSTON – Head volleyball coach Molly Alvey is preparing for her second trip outside of the United States this summer. After spending nearly two weeks in Beijing in June, Alvey will travel to London, Croatia and Italy beginning July 12.
During her trip to Europe, Alvey will serve as a coach for the A2 Junior National Team when they compete at the European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia. She will serve on the coaching staff with Santiago Restrepo of Oklahoma and Brook Coulter of Georgia.
Upon arriving in London, the team will hold a training camp July 14-16 with the Great Britain National Team. There they will participate in morning practices and afternoon matches with the Great Britain National Team that will compete in the 2012 Olympics in London.
Following the training camp, the A2 Junior National Team will depart for Croatia July 17 with the opening ceremonies for the European Global Challenge to be held later that evening. The tournament is scheduled to take place July 18-21.
The A2 Junior National Team is one of six teams from the US that will compete in the tournament as well as teams from Slovenia, Romania, Italy, Montenegro, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
Before returning to the United States on July 23, the team will spend the final day of its trip sightseeing in Venice, Italy.
