Iowa State Cyclones Volleyball Team Tagged for Two National Broadcasts
AMES, Iowa - Iowa State volleyball fans across the country will get their chance to see the Cyclones in action twice in 2011 as ESPNU will broadcast both Iowa State’s match against Missouri in Ames on Sept. 21 and the Cyclones’ road match at Oklahoma on Nov. 2. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. CDT.
“One of our goals is to appear on national TV every year,” head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. “It’s exciting to have two opportunities to do that this year. We are particularly excited that our home match versus Missouri will be on ESPNU. This will give us a chance to showcase our incredible fan base and show fans and recruits around the country that Hilton Coliseum is truly one of the best volleyball venues in the country.”
The match against Mizzou will be the second national broadcast of a Cyclone home match in program history and the first-ever national broadcast from Hilton Coliseum. ESPNU aired Iowa State and Nebraska’s match at Ames High School last season.
Both matches promise excitement as the Cyclones have battled with both the Tigers and Sooners since Johnson-Lynch came to Ames in 2006.
Iowa State holds the 6-4 edge over Missouri in the last five years including a three-match winning streak before Missouri’s 3-1 win over the Cyclones in Ames last year. The Cyclones are 3-2 against Missouri at Hilton since 2006.
The Cyclones and Sooners are even at five wins apiece in the first five seasons of Johnson-Lynch’s reign with the home team holding the strong edge. The Cyclones and Sooners are each 4-1 when playing on their home court. The Cyclones’ lone win in Norman was a three set sweep in 2009. As they did against Missouri, the Cyclones won three-straight against Oklahoma heading into the match in Norman last year where they fell in four sets.
