Texas Volleyball earns No. 1 overall seed in NCAA Championship
The fifth-ranked Texas Volleyball team has earned the No.1 national seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
AUSTIN, Texas -- The fifth-ranked Texas volleyball team will make its 28th NCAA Tournament appearance this coming weekend when it hosts the first and second rounds of the 2011 NCAA Tournament at Gregory Gymnasium.
Texas (22-4, 15-1 Big 12) earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the top seed in the Lexington Regional. It marks the first time that Texas has received the top-seed in the tourney since the NCAA began seeding the top-16 teams. The Horns will welcome Arizona, Michigan State and UT’s first round opponent, Texas State to Gregory Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3 as the Horns host for the eighth straight season.
Arizona will face Michigan State on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and the Longhorns will take on Texas State at 7 p.m. after the conclusion of the first match. The winners of the two matches will meet on Saturday at 7 p.m. Central
Tickets to the NCAA Tournament first and second rounds can currently be purchased at TexasBoxOffice.com or the Bellmont Hall ticket office. All-session ticket packages are $6 (students), $12 (reserved general admission) and $20 (reserved seating). Individual session tickets will go on sale beginning Friday.
The winner of the Austin Sub-regional will advance to the Lexington Regional, where it will face the winner of the College Station, Texas Sub-Regional in the NCAA Regional semifinals on Dec. 9.
Texas earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big 12 Conference, and was one of seven teams from the Big 12 e to earn an invite. UT is joined by fourth-seeded Iowa State, 16th-seeded Texas A&M, Baylor, Kansas State, Missouri and Oklahoma in the 64-team draw.
The Longhorns have won their last 14 matches, including 28-straight on their home floor.
Texas State (27-7, 15-1 Southland) earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the Southland Conference Championship. Arizona (19-11, 11-10 Pacific 12) gained an at-large bid to the tournament after finishing seventh in its conference. Michigan State (21-10, 10-10 Big Ten) earned an at-large bid after finishing sixth in its league.
In 2010, Texas earned its seventh straight bid to the NCAA Championship and advanced to the national semifinals for the third straight season.
Texas has been selected to host first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament 22 times and UT is 48-9 all-time in NCAA matches played in Austin. Texas is undefeated in first-round contests at 27-0.

Single day tickets won't be available until (First Day of Tournament) at 9 a.m. (Central). These tickets can be purchased either online, by phone or in person.
Tickets will only be available at will call for this event. Tickets can be picked up at Bellmont Hall beginning Wednesday, Nov. 30. They will be at Bellmont until one hour prior to the event start time. At that time, they will be available at will call at Gregory Gymnasium.
