CLEMSON, SC - Clemson senior Sandra Adeleye has been named the Volleyball Co-Player-of-the-Week by the ACC for the final week of the regular season, ending Nov. 23. It is the third career weekly honor for Adeleye, who also took home All-ACC honors for the fourth time in as many seasons, becoming the first Clemson player ever to achieve that feat.
Adeleye posted 18 kills against just two errors in 32 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win against Georgia Tech last Tuesday. The Katy, TX native also added four blocks in the match for an average of 6.67 points per set.
Adeleye closed her career with 1,493 kills, a .331 hitting percentage and 119 blocks. For her career, she scored a patriotic 1776.0 points, which includes blocking, kills, and aces. She ranks in the top ten in Clemson history in kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, total blocking, and block assists.
She shares her weekly honor with Sareea Freeman of Florida State, who had 11 kills in four sets for FSU, who clinched the ACC title.
Clemson finished the season 21-10 overall and tied for fourth in the ACC at 12-8, but was not selected for NCAA play. It was Clemson’s 24th 20-win season in school history, and the 13th in 20 years under head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover.
FSU Volleyball Victory over Boston College Sets up ACC Showdown
No. 11 Florida State volleyball’s 3-0 win over Eagles on Sunday creates winner-takes-all matchup vs. Miami next Friday for ACC championship
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The 11th-ranked Florida State indoor volleyball team took care of business on Sunday afternoon by defeating Boston College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-22), at Tully Gym for its seventh consecutive three-set sweep at home.
The win by the Seminoles (26-3, 17-2) sets up the most important match of the season, a regular-season finale against rival Miami on Friday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. at Tully Gym. With the Hurricanes (25-4, 17-2) defeating Maryland on Sunday and holding the same conference record as Florida State, the winner of Friday’s match will be crowned ACC champion.
It took plenty of effort to defeat Boston College on Sunday, as the Eagles (10-21, 4-15) forced the Seminoles into a low hitting percentage in the first set before Florida State developed some consistency on offense. All season, senior middle blocker Sareea Freeman has been the persistent force for the Seminoles and once again she came through with 13 kills, a .524 hitting percentage and three blocks.
“I think the girls were just getting to the end of the year where they are feeling a lot of pressure and stress in trying to play well and performing at a high level every single time,” head coach Chris Poole said. “I’m proud of the way they are finding the big points and finding ways to win those. It’s always important knowing that you can’t always play at a high level, but you’ve still got to find a way to make the big play when it counts to win. That’s the key that this team has mostly been able to do this year.”
Freeman continues her reign as the nation’s leader in hitting percentage, increasing her number to .451 for the season. With Boston College making several hard charges and cutting into Florida State leads, Freeman was always there for an important put-down that gave the Seminoles some breathing room in the match.
Sophomore setter Sarah Wickstrom, who has paired so well with Freeman the last two seasons, led Florida State with 26 assists and contributed to the team’s .298 hitting percentage. Senior setter Duygu Duzceler played in her 131st career match on Sunday and delivered her 129th service ace to move into a tie for ninth in school history.
Stepping up with some big points was freshman outside hitter Nicole Walch, who started her fifth match of the season. The Stuart, Fla. native recorded eight kills in 23 attacks, a .261 hitting percentage, four digs and a block.
The Seminoles kept their win streak at home going, having won 25 straight matches dating back to the start of the 2011 NCAA National Semifinal season. Currently, Florida State has won 23 straight sets at home, although Boston College put that streak in danger.
Florida State has now won 10 straight matches against Boston College. Should the Seminoles earn a victory on Friday over Miami and win their fourth ACC title, they would finish 18-2 in the ACC for the second consecutive season.
Since the Seminoles joined the ACC in 1991, the possibility of a 36-4 record over a two-year stretch would be among the best by any ACC team in conference history. The record would equal a .900 winning percentage that would only be surpassed in a two-year stretch by Maryland (32-0 in 1996 and 1997), Georgia Tech (31-1 in 2003 and 2004) and Duke (40-4 in 2006 and 2007).
In Sunday’s match against Boston College, the first set featured 15 tied scores and five lead changes, as Florida State used a late 3-0 run to create some separation at 20-17. B.C. would not quit, as consecutive blocks by the Eagles tied the set at 21-21. Fatma Yildirim, who fell one kill shy of a double-double, responded with a kill, but BC’s Katty Workman came back with one of her own to tie the set at 22-22.
Another 3-0 run sealed the first frame for Florida State, as kills by Freeman and Yildirim and a set-ending service ace by Duzceler swung the momentum in Florida State’s favor.
The Seminoles took control of the second set early, winning seven of 10 points early on. Florida State hit .441 in the set and got a service ace by freshman Caroline Dadowski to head into the intermission ahead 2-0.
The third set became a struggle after the Seminoles let up an early lead and found themselves trailing 17-16 on a service ace from Kellie Barnum. Freeman came back with consecutive kills and an attack error by BC propelled the Seminoles to their final lead of the match at 19-17. An attack error by BC’s Courtney Castle would later seal Florida State’s seventh straight 3-0 sweep at Tully Gym.
Friday’s pivotal matchup against Miami, which is the day following Thanksgiving, will be video streamed on ESPN3.com and can be seen by downloading the WatchESPN app on your iPhone or iPad.
Fans are encouraged to arrival earlier than usual as four Seminole seniors in Duygu Duzceler, Sareea Freeman, Marija Milosavljevic and Fatma Yildirim will be honored as one of the most vital senior classes in school history that helped the team to its first NCAA Regional Semifinal and National Semifinal appearances in 2009 and 2011. The four seniors will be honored approximately 10 minutes before the 1 p.m. match

Duke Volleyball Team's McCurdy Records 37 Digs in Loss at Miami
September 28, 2012
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior libero Ali McCurdy amassed a career-high 37 digs, but the Duke volleyball team came up just short, falling 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 29-27, 25-21) at Miami Friday evening at the Knight Sports Complex.
Almost a week after totaling 33 digs against North Carolina, McCurdy bettered that performance against the Hurricanes as she once again anchored the Blue Devil defense. The Tampa, Fla., native is the only player in the ACC to top 30 digs this season as her total tonight is tied for second-highest all-time in the Duke record books. In addition, she is the only Blue Devil in school history to total over 35 digs in a four-set match.
“Ali [McCurdy]was everywhere tonight,” said head coach Jolene Nagel. “She really was amazing tonight, flying around the court and reading balls. She’s turned into a leader for our team and hopefully she can continue to play like that because she was huge for us tonight.”
After missing two matches last weekend due to injury, freshman Emily Sklar returned with 10 kills and 23 digs in her team-leading fifth double-double of the season. Sophomore Jeme Obeime led the Blue Devils with 11 kills, while senior Christiana Gray added 10 kills and two blocks.
“Some good things happened tonight and yet we came up on the short end of things,” added Nagel. “Miami is a very athletic and well-coached team. We put forth a great effort and did a better job of controlling the first ball, which gave us more opportunities. I would like to see us block a few more balls and put a few more balls away for kills. We served pretty well, but we had a few too many errors. If we can continue to minimize the lapses, then we’re going to be where we want to be.”
The Hurricanes captured the opening set, 25-18, to stake an early 1-0 advantage. Duke responded in the second set, building a 15-11 lead following an Elizabeth Campbell ace at the midway point. The Blue Devils maintained their lead the rest of the way as a Miami service error ended the stanza, 25-19, in Duke’s favor. Gray led the Blue Devils with four kills on .667 hitting as Duke also posted four service aces in the second set.
With the match tied at 1-1, the Blue Devils trailed the Hurricanes 19-15 before battling back to tie the third set at 23-all. Four ties later, Miami eked out a tightly-contested 29-27 win to take the 2-1 lead overall then utilized the momentum to build an early lead in what proved to be the final frame.
“[The third set] is an example of what this team is capable of when they put their mind to it,” said Nagel. “We were down quite a bit and it took a lot to come back in that set. Now we just need to not allow ourselves to get in that situation.”
Miami had three players total 10 or more kills with Emani Sims registering a match-high 18. Taylor Hollins also added a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs for the Hurricanes.
Duke heads north to Tallahassee, Fla., for a Sunday matchup against No. 14 Florida State. The Blue Devils and the Seminoles square off at 1 p.m., Sunday, September 30 in Tully Gym.
Middle blockers Sareea Freeman and Ashley Neff as well as right-side hitter Marija Milosavljevic show offensive prowess in four-set win over Demon Deacons
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The No. 14 Florida State indoor volleyball team withstood a tough test from Wake Forest on Friday evening and picked up an important conference victory, winning 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19) in front of 1,115 fans at Tully Gym.
It was the play of three of the tallest figures on the team that sparked the Seminoles (11-2, 3-1) to their 17th straight home victory on Friday night. Senior middle blocker Sareea Freeman delivered 10 kills and posted a .643 hitting percentage, continuing to show off her expanding offensive game that makes her one of the nation’s most versatile middle blockers.
“Anytime you get a win you are always going to be happy,” head coach Chris Poole said. “I wish we had played a little more consistent during the match. Game three we tried to mix it up a little bit and let the freshmen go in and they did fine. What happens is sometimes it throws your chemistry off a little bit, and even though they played well it through us out of sync a little bit. We got everybody back in and got back in sync that fourth game and was able to put it away.”
Fellow middle blocker Ashley Neff was stellar once again, recording 10 kills in 13 attacks for a .769 hitting percentage. Neff added four blocks as she entered Friday’s contest as the only player in the nation in the Top 10 in hitting percentage and blocks per set. Neff’s good offensive performance elevates her hitting percentage to .476 this season.
While Neff and Freeman were relied on when Florida State had occasional struggles in the match, it was senior right-side hitter Marija Milosavljevic who had nine kills and a .571 hitting percentage. The Bajina Basta, Serbia native saved her best hitting for the fourth set, posting three kills, two blocks and even an assist. Trailing 6-5 in the fourth frame, Milosavljevic combined on back-to-back blocks to give FSU the lead, and delivered a few more kills that broke ties and gave FSU a pair of leads.
Milosavljevic added four blocks in the contest. Last season, the Serbian saved Florida State from a five-set loss at home by the Demon Deacons (6-9, 0-3) with a career-high 12 blocks off the bench.
Wake Forest hung around in Friday’s match partially by being able to find hitting lanes against a Florida State squad that was ninth in the nation in blocks per set. The Seminoles recorded just five blocks in four sets of action, which was a season low. It was also FSU’s lowest in a match beyond three sets since recording four blocks in a loss at Miami on Nov. 26, 2011.
Sophomore setter Sarah Wickstrom continued her steady play, compiling 25 assists and adding four digs. Senior Fatma Yildirim added 12 digs while redshirt sophomore Katie Mosher also had 12 digs.
Earning some valuable time was freshman outside hitter Nicole Walch, who energized the Seminoles with six kills and a .455 hitting percentage in two sets. Overall, Florida State recorded a .307 hitting percentage, the seventh time they have hit above the .300 threshold as well as the third straight match.
In Florida State’s 17-match winning streak at Tully Gym, Friday’s match was just the sixth time the Seminoles were taken beyond a three-set match.
Wake Forest received a good performance from outside hitter Anna Carley, who had 10 kills and a .286 hitting percentage. Setter Danae Rosendall delivered 40 assists for the Demon Deacons.
The Seminoles prepare to face rival Duke on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Tully Gym. Florida State is looking to defeat the Blue Devils in Tallahassee for the fourth year in a row and sweep both Duke and Wake Forest in the same home weekend for the fifth time in school history.
•Wake Forest fell 3-0 to Furman on Tuesday night at home, snapping the Deacs six-game home winning streak.
•Kylie Hargreaves had 11 kills while Andrea Beck had 10 to lead the Demon Deacons.
This Week's Opponents
• No.14 Florida State defeated Virginia Tech and Virginia last week and is 2-1 in the ACC. while Miami beat UVA but lost to Virginia Tech.
• Miami stunned Florida State on Sept. 7, winning 3-1.
• Live stats will be available for each match. The match with Miami will be broadcast on ESPN3.
• Jared Schwartz and Natasha Schaefer will have the call for ESPN3 for Sunday's match. Schaefer was a member of the Wake Forest volleyball team for four years, graduating in 2007. She ranks third all-time in school history in digs with 1384 and digs per set with 3.56.
Series History
• Wake Forest is searching for its first win over Florida State since 2010 when the Deacs swept the Seminoles in Tallahassee. FSU narrowly beat the Demon Deacons last season in both matches, winning each of them 3-2.
• Miami leads the series over Wake Forest with a 10-4 mark.
Next Up...
• Returning home next week, the Deacs face Boston College on Oct. 5 and Maryland on Oct. 6 in Reynolds Gym.

HOUSTON, Texas (seminoles.com)
–
No. 11 Florida State indoor volleyball produced one of its better
performances of the young season as it defeated No. 21 Ohio State, 3-1,
(25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 25-13) on Saturday
afternoon at the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup in the Athletics/Alumni
Center.
The
victory for the Seminoles (8-2) marks their third Top 25 win of the
season, and the 11th for head coach Chris Poole since coming to Florida
State in 2008. The Seminoles
finished second at the competitive tournament that also included
nationally-ranked Pepperdine and Houston. In its victory today, Florida
State raced out to a convincing 16-1 lead in the fourth set to ensure
the victory.
“We
obviously played today the way we have wanted to throughout the
season,” Poole said. “We had a disappointing last seven days and hadn’t
been playing like ourselves, but
we came back alive today and it was good to see.”
Senior
outside hitter Fatma Yildirim proved to be one of the top players at
the weekend invitational. She capped off her tremendous three-match
performance with a career-high
20 kills, which is the most by an FSU player this season. Yildirim
recorded a .462 hitting percentage and was effective all afternoon,
using a combination of shots to throw Ohio State off-balanced.
“Fatma
played outstanding,” Poole said. “She played the way we envisioned her
playing, and hopefully this starts to get her into a rhythm. I’m proud
of how everyone came
back this weekend.”
Junior
Olivera Medic posted 13 kills in 25 attacks for a .440 hitting
percentage, which included a dominant third set where she produced eight
kills. Redshirt sophomore Katie
Mosher had 18 digs and kept alive rallies all afternoon with a series
of good plays off difficult attacks. Marija Milosavljevic was also
strong at the right side, hitting eight kills and a .500 percentage.
Both Mosher and Yildirim were named to the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup All-Tournament Team.
Sareea

Duzceler had a season high 32 assists. The Seminoles hit .375 overall in
the match, their second-highest
this season. The Buckeyes (8-3) were held to a .191 hitting clip.
Yildirim’s
five kills in the opening set highlighted Florida State’s offensive
flow that resulted in a .412 hitting percentage. After getting behind
6-2 early, the Seminoles
responded by winning seven of the next eight rallies and never gave up
their lead. Ohio State hit at a .158 clip. An important three-point
swing allowed Florida State to take a 20-14 lead on a kill by Freeman as
well as a service ace by Medic. The set ended
on a hard kill from Yildirim down the line.
Ohio
State’s blocking ability showed well in the second set as it recorded
seven against the Seminoles, including the set point at 24-22 that tied
the match at 1-1 overall.
Mosher allowed the Seminoles to play several long rallies by racking up
nine digs in the second frame, and Yildirim looked strong again with
five kills in the set.
After
trailing 18-14 in the second set, Florida State fought back and tied
the frame at 19-19 on a service ace by Mosher. Both teams traded the
next six rallies until a couple
hitting miscues by the Seminoles put them behind at 24-22, giving way
for a block by Mari Hole and Andrea Kacsits that tied the match.
The
Seminoles played one of their most impressive sets of the season in the
third frame, hitting .517 on 18 kills in 29 attacks. Medic had eight
kills in the set while Yildirim
added four as Florida State attained a double-digit lead at 19-9 on a

The Deacs finished with six wins in the ACC last season which was highlighted by a 3-1 victory over No.23-ranked Duke University on national television.
Beck, a middle blocker from Winston-Salem, N.C., averaged 3.39 kills per set last season while hitting for a percentage of .314. She registered 271 kills despite missing part of the season due to injury.
”The team looks really good, we’ve had a great first day at camp,” said Beck. “The freshman all looked great at camp and I’m excited for all of them.”
