Creighton Volleyball's Brooke Boggs Earns MVC Leadership & Service Award

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball senior Brooke Boggs has been recognized
by the Missouri Valley Conference with the league's MVC Leadership & Service
Award.

The award was created by the MVC in an effort to honor the achievements of
exceptional student-athletes. Ten student-athletes have been named by
Commissioner Doug Elgin as the honorees for the 2012 fall season.

In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good
academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good
sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a
sport, during the season of recognition.  The Valley will recognize 10
student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of
30 honorees.  Institutions select their MVC Leadership & Service Award
honorees.

Creighton Volleyball's Bober Named CVU.com's National Player of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball senior Megan Bober has been named
National Player of the Week by CVU.com after helping the Bluejays to the USF
Invitational title last weekend in Tampa.

Bober, who was named MVC Player of the Week on Monday, is believed to be the
first player in program history honored by that volleyball-specific website.

A senior from Murdock, Neb., Bober had three consecutive double-doubles to
lead the Jays to the USF Invitational title, the program¹s first since 2006.
For the weekend, she averaged 8.73 assists, 3.09 digs, 2.18 kills and 0.64
blocks per set on .408 hitting in wins over teams from the Big Ten, Big East
and Conference USA. She had 36 assists, 12 digs, six kills and five blocks
while hitting .385 in the season-opening win vs. UCF. On Saturday vs. host
USF, Bober approached a triple-double with 22 assists, 14 digs and eight
kills on .353 hitting. Bober finished with 38 assists, 10 kills and eight
digs on .474 hitting in the clincher vs. Wisconsin.

Creighton (3-0) hosts the Bluejay Invitational this weekend, beginning with
a 6 pm match vs. Syracuse (3-0). Denver (2-1) takes on No. 21 Kansas State
(3-0) in the first match of the event beginning at 3:30 pm in D.J. Sokol
Arena.

35^th Season Of Indiana State Volleyball To Begin In Chicago

 

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – The schedule for the 35th season of Indiana State volleyball has been announced by fifth year head coach Tracy Dahl. The schedule for the 2012 Sycamore campaign includes three early season tournaments and a road trip to IUPUI before beginning a competitive Missouri Valley Conference campaign.

 

"Our schedule is getting tougher every year,” Dahl said. “This is a direct reflection on our team and their desire to be better. Our conference teams are all very tough and every match will be a battle. The non-conference schedule this year will challenge our team more than ever and I am looking forward to seeing them compete."

The 2012 version of the Sycamores will begin report to campus on August 7 to begin their preseason workouts. Local fans will be able to see a preview of the 2012 squad when they go up against an Alumni squad at 2 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Aug. 18, in the ISU Arena.

 

The Sycamores finished the 2011 campaign with a 14-17 record and reached the MVC post season tournament for the first time since the 2004 season.

 

Two of the three early season tournaments will be on the road beginning with the DePaul Invitational that begins the regular season August 24-25 in Chicago, Ill. The Sycamores will take on Butler at 5:30 p.m. (ET) on Friday, Aug. 24, to open the 2012 season. That will be followed by back-to-back games on Saturday, Aug, 25, as the Sycamores meet host DePaul at 3 p.m. (ET) and rival Eastern Illinois at 5:30 p.m. (ET).

 

The second road tournament will be played Sept. 7-8 in Oxford, Ohio, as Indiana State competes in the Miami (Ohio) Tournament. The Sycamores open play against the host RedHawks at 7 p.m. (ET) Friday, Sept. 7. Indiana State will play two games on Saturday, Sept. 8, as they take on Temple at 1 p.m. (ET) and Chicago State at 5 p.m. (ET).

 

In between will be the First Annual Jessica Barkman Memorial Classic sponsored by Drury Inn which will be held Sept. 1-2 in the ISU Arena. Joining the Sycamores will be Loyola (Chicago), SIU Edwardsville, and Western Illinois. Indiana State will play twice on Saturday, Sept. 1, as they battle Loyola (Chicago) at 1 p.m. (ET) and come back to take on SIU Edwardsville at 7 p.m. (ET). The Sycamores wrap up the tournament by taking on Western Illinois at 2 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 2.

 

Indiana State’s lone regularly scheduled non-conference game will come just before the Barkman Classic as the Sycamores travel to Indianapolis for a game against the IUPUI Jaguars at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

 

The 2012 Missouri Valley season begins on the road for Indiana State as they visit Southern Illinois on Sept. 14 and Evansville on Sept. 15. The home portion of the conference schedule opens on Sept. 21 when the Bradley Braves come to town followed by defending champion Northern Iowa on Sept. 22 and Illinois State Sept. 28.

 

The rest of the conference home schedule has Drake visiting Oct. 12, Creighton Oct. 13, Wichita State Nov. 2, Missouri State Nov. 3, Evansville on Nov. 16, and Southern Illinois on Nov. 17. In between are road games at Missouri State (Oct. 5), Wichita State (Oct. 6), Northern Iowa (Oct. 19), Bradley (Oct. 20), Illinois State (Oct. 26), Creighton (Nov. 9), and Drake (Nov. 10).

 

Indiana State reached the MVC post-season tournament for the first time since 1984 during the 2011 season and is looking for a return visit to the tournament which will be held Nov. 22-24 on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield, Ohio.

 

A mixed squad of veterans and newcomers will battle for the Blue and White this year including three seniors in Morgan Dall, Shea Doran, and Christie Fullenkamp. Dall currently ranks 13th in career kills and will become the 11th member of the Sycamore 1,000 kill club with her 67th kill of the 2012 season. She also ranks second in career kills per set (3.50) and 12th in total attacks (2,659), needing just 83 attacks to break into the career top 10. Doran was named to the MVC All-Tournament team a year ago and Fullenkamp was a key contributor in the rotation for Coach Dahl.

Indiana State To Play In Second Tournament Of Spring Season On Saturday

 

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – The Indiana State volleyball team will play in their second tournament of the spring season on Saturday as they join five other schools in the Illinois State Volleyball Spring Tournament.

 

Indiana State will join the host Illinois State Redbirds along with Illinois Central College, Miami University, Northern Illinois, and SIU Edwardsville in the one day tournament. Action will be held in the North Gym on the campus of Illinois Saturday which is located adjacent to Horton Fieldhouse, just north or Redbird Arena.

 

“We struggled in a few areas at our first tournament,” Traci Dahl, Indiana State volleyball coach, said. “We identified what we need to get better at and have been working hard these last few weeks. I am really looking forward to seeing the team compete this weekend”

 

Indiana State opens up against Miami University at 11:45 a.m. (ET) and will play SIU Edwardsville at 12:30 p.m. (ET) before the lunch break. The Sycamores will come back to take on Illinois Central College at 2:30 p.m. (ET) before rounding out the competition against the host Illinois State Redbirds at 3:15 p.m. (ET).

 

Each game will be two sets to 25 points.

Creighton Volleyball Team Announces Challenging 2012 Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. -- Five matches against BCS teams and 10 matches against NCAA
Tournament qualifiers highlight the 2012 Creighton Volleyball schedule,
released today by head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth.

Creighton has traditionally played one of the nation's most difficult
non-conference schedules under Booth, and this fall figures to be no
different. The Bluejays will take part in tournaments at South Florida
(featuring UCF, USF and Wisconsin) and Northern Colorado (with Tulsa, Ball
State and Northern Colorado), and will also host Kansas State, Syracuse and
Denver in the Bluejay Invitational.

The Jays also have non-conference mid-week tilts vs. Kansas and South
Dakota.

As always, Creighton will also play each of the other nine Missouri Valley
Conference schools both home and away. The Jays open Valley play at home on
Sept. 14th vs. Missouri State, and end league action on Nov. 17 against the
Bears in Springfield.

The State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament will take place Nov.
22-24 at a site to be determined later this spring.

Creighton went 17-14 last season and was 12-6 in the MVC. The Bluejays are
slated to return five starters in search of a second NCAA Tournament bid in
the past three seasons.

Ticket packages for Creighton Volleyball will be announced later this
summer.

Sycamore Volleyball To Compete In Indy Collegiate Invitational Saturday

 

ISU Volleyball Competes At Indy Collegiate Invite Saturday

 

Sycamores also to compete at Illinois State, Indiana this spring 

 

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – The Indiana State volleyball team will open their spring season Saturday by competing in the Fifth Annual Indy Collegiate Invitational in Plainfield, Ind. The tournament is sponsored by the Circle City Volleyball Club.

 

Indiana State will play four games in the tournament starting with a match against the Indiana Hoosiers at 10:30 a.m. (ET). The Sycamores will then take on Ball State at 11:30 a.m. (ET), Southern Illinois at 1:30 p.m., and wrap up play against the University of Indianapolis at 2:30 p.m. (ET).

 

“The team is stronger than ever right now and I am really looking forward to watching them compete this spring,” Dahl said.

 

The 2011 Sycamores lost three players to graduation including middle blocker Stacey Qualizza, libero Kiya James, and setter Shelbi Fouty. Nine players are back for the Spring season as the Sycamores begin to prepare for the 2012 season.

 

Outside hitters Morgan Dall and Christie Fullenkamp along with middle blocker Shea Doran are the rising seniors for the 2012 squad. They trio is joined by current sophomores Loni Mackinson, Monique Morris, and Molly Murphy, along with current freshmen Jessica Bushong, Katie Moon, and Kyla Thomas.

 

“We are working extremely hard in the gym and in the weight room,” Dahl said. “We are looking to continue the progress that has already been made in the ISU program.”

 

Indiana State finished the 2011 season with a 14-17 record and a 6-13 mark in the Valley. The Sycamores advanced to the post-season tournament for the first time since 2004 with Doran named to the All-Tournament team.

 

ILLINOIS STATE SPRING TOURNAMENT –

 

Indiana State volleyball will compete in the Illinois State Spring Tournament on Saturday, April 14, along Illinois State, Illinois Central College, Miami University, Northern Illinois, and SIU Edwardsville.

 

The Sycamores open play against Northern Illinois at 10:30 a.m. (ET). Indiana State will take on Miami at 11:15 a.m. (ET), SIU Edwardsville at 12:00 p.m. (ET), Northern Illinois again at 1:15 p.m. (ET), Illinois Central College at 2 p.m. (ET), and wrap up tournament action against Illinois State at 2:45 p.m. (ET). Each game is two sets to 25 points.

 

INDIANA SPRING TOURNAMENT –

 

The Sycamores will close out the spring season on Saturday, Apr. 21, when they compete at the Indiana Spring Tournament in Bloomington, Ind., along with the Hoosiers and the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis. A complete schedule for the tournament has not been released as yet.
