Florida State Indoor Volleyball Team Hosts Florida, LSU in Spring Matches
Reigning NCAA National Semifinal participants host two Southeastern Conference foes on Saturday at Tully Gym
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State University indoor volleyball team prepares to host its lone spring matches at Tully Gym on Saturday when it faces Southeastern Conference rivals Florida and LSU.
The first wave of matches occurs at 10 a.m. in what will be a best of two out of three format. The Seminoles and LSU will begin play at 10 a.m., followed by LSU versus Florida and then FSU versus Florida. Each match will last approximately one hour.
Following a 10-minute break, a second wave of matches will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the same aforementioned order.
Despite the loss of four contributing seniors to the 2011 team that advanced to its first-ever NCAA National Semifinal, FSU returns several talented student-athletes who will make a large impact on next season’s team. Part of the returning group is redshirt freshman libero Katie Mosher, who set a single-season school record in just her first season of action with 604 digs last season.
The Seminoles also have a formidable blocking front returning headlined by the nation’s leader in total blocks last season in sophomore Ashley Neff. Junior Sareea Freeman also comes back, picking up where she left off with superb performances over North Florida and Jacksonville University in FSU’s first scrimmages of the spring season three weekends ago.
Setters Duygu Duzceler and Sarah Wickstrom will also be present; forming a tremendous combination that benefitted last year’s outside hitters. Right-side hitter Elise Walch is one of FSU’s prominent offensive players who also returns, and she will be joined by her sister Nicole, who was one of the nation’s top outside hitters in the 2012 recruiting class and enrolled early at FSU.
As always, admission to this weekend’s spring matches is free at Tully Gym.
