Jamie Morrison Joins UC Irvine Women's Volleyball
IRVINE, Calif. --- Jamie Morrison, currently an assistant with the USA Women’s National Team, has been hired as an assistant coach with the UC Irvine women’s volleyball program, announced head coach Paula Weishoff.
Morrison is currently working with Weishoff on Team USA’s staff and has been an assistant coach and technical coordinator since 2009. Responsible for the setters, scouting, and on-court coaching focusing on blocking systems, Morrison has assisted the Americans to back-to-back World Grand Prix Championships, a NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship, a silver medal in the 2011 World Cup and a No. 1 world ranking. He will finish his stint with Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics.
“I am both extremely excited and honored to be a part of UCI Volleyball,” said Morrison. “I would like to thank Paula Weishoff, the team and administration for this opportunity. I believe that the pieces are in place to make this a great team and I am looking forward to working towards reaching our potential.”
Prior to joining the national team staff, Morrison served as Weishoff’s assistant at Concordia University (Irvine) from 2007 to 2008 There, Morrison helped the Eagles reach the NAIA National Tournament twice and advance to the championship match in 2008.
“Jamie Morrison is a talented up-and-coming coach who has accumulated a wealth of knowledge working the past eight years at the international level,” said Weishoff. “Working with the national team, Jamie was the best at finding innovative solutions to approach the game of volleyball from a technological standpoint: visual feedback, tools to read the game better, using statistics to increase performance as well as creating state-of-the art scouting reports. Jamie’s strong work ethic, positive attitude, technological expertise and strong coaching abilities are going to be great assets for us at UCI. We are happy that he is a part of our coaching staff and welcome Jamie to our ‘Eater Nation family!”
In 2010-11, Morrison helmed the SVS Post Volleyball Club in Vienna, Austria, leading the team to a 32-6 record for the best season in club history. The club’s achievements included an Austrian Championship and a silver medal in the Middle European League.
Morrison also has considerable experience on the men’s side and spent four years (2005-09) with the U.S. Men’s National Team as an assistant coach and technical coordinator. During his tenure, Morrison aided Team USA to a 107-33 record, including Olympic gold in Beijing, China and its first-ever gold medal at the World League Finals in 2008. In Beijing, Team USA defeated Brazil and progressed through the Olympic Games without losing a match.
Morrison was responsible for match video analysis and statistics and implementing the data into training session plans as well as match-time decisions. He was also charged with creating technological advances to aid in training, scouting and overall team functionality.
Morrison received a degree in business economics from the UC Santa Barbara with a minor in sports administration.
