CBSSports.com national columnist Gregg Doyel has issues with on-court celebrations

and one of his fans doesn't like how volleyball players celebrate points

on the volleyball court. 

If we didn't celebrate, then the crowd wouldn't, then no volleyball on TV because it would

be a boring game.

Yes, this is the same Doyel who wrote about Tennessee student football fans 

and their reaction to the whole Lane Kiffin goes to USC debacle. As a Lady Vol

from Cali, I almost feel like the child of divorced parents. Go figure...

Sitting Volleyball Coach Needed For Upcoming Warrior Games

The Defense Department and the United States Olympic Committee are

organizing the first edition of the Warrior Games. About 200 wounded warriors,

50 athletes from the Marines and 25 each from the Air Force and 

Navy Coast Guard will compete on May 10 -14 in Colorado Springs.

The Air Force Services Agency Fitness Branch needs a volleyball coach

for the sitting volleyball team.

New Rule Changes Video on Touching the Volleyball Net

I think this is a great video that illustrates almost every possible scenario regarding the most recent indoor volleyball rule changes on how you can and cannot touch the volleyball net.

Volleyball World Lends A Hand To Haiti

NORCECA -that's North and Central America Volleyball Confederation donated 20,000 bottles of water to the victims in Haiti.

According to the FIVB: "The NORCECA Volleyball Confederation has created a special fund for those compassionate friends and institutions around the world with a desire to alleviate the suffering in Haiti.

Donations are welcomed at Wachovia Bank NA. Account 2000192003379, Swift Code PNBPUS3NNYC, ABA No 026005092. Beneficiary: Banco BDI SA for further credit to Confederación Norceca de Voleibol. Account: 4010019231."

 

The FIVB is raising funds, food and medicine in a joint effort with NORCECA to help Haiti victims. 

"“The situation demands a common action of mercy from everyone who can contribute to relief the spiritual pain and provide the necessary medicine, food, water, as well as to supply material assistance for this nation in desperate need of help,” Mr. Marte Hoffiz said “Volleyball did not escape the effects of the disaster as the only playing facility in the country was completely destroyed and the family home of Jacques Joachim, former FIVB Board of Administration member and one of NORCECA founders, collapsed causing the death of his wife.”." The first break up wasn't pretty... I was still in Cali and I remember all the fallout about the Paris and Klagenfurt events...

...but time heals everything and maybe the second time is the charm. (Okay, that's two cliches for the price of one, how's that?)

The Hot Stove aka Hans Stolfus reports that Rachel Wacholder and Elaine Youngs will reunite to play together this season. This interesting "new" development occurred apparently as the result of Kerri Walsh's second pregnancy which resulted in Misty May Treanor teaming up with Nicole Branagh. Stay tuned for "As the Beach Volleyball World Turns..." or as Stolfus puts it the continuing saga of the world of "volleyships." 

Nice word you invented H.S. "volleyships" I think I'll continue to use it, with appropriate credit given of course.. 

Speaking of "la playa" Argentina starts their National Beach Volleyball circuit (beach volleyball pictures) this weekend.

Although Don Flora with New Mexico State volleyball was reportedly one of a couple of  

finalists for the job the University Of the Pacific  hired Greg Gibbons, former UC Santa 

Barbara assistant coach who will become Charlie Wade's permanent replacement.  

"They're waiting for a leader to come in and go at it," Gibbons said. "They were lacking a little bit of leadership, and we want to make it a little more intense. I want a lot of fighters and student-athletes that give their heart and soul."

So with the ever-growing popularity of beach volleyball and the indoor volleyball game in the US, (the world is way ahead of us...) there seems to be an increasing amount of teachers and experts coaching the game. 

For me it's a lot of fun to listen to and learn from people who really know what they are talking about.

Beach Volleyball Training Advice

I just checked out the University of Beach Volleyball's training video, the ninth one out of ten.

I still have to check out the first eight but the volleyball training advice in this one made since to me. 

Basically the message is to focus on your technique in volleyball practice and not just concentrate on the "end result". 

Check it...you can kick a ball over the net and get the ball to land where you want it to three or four times in practice, but what is the proper technique you need to learn and apply so you can rely on getting the volleyball to the same open spot eight out of ten or 18 out of 20 times during a volleyball game?

Another beach volleyball training tip they give is for players to learn to establish volleyball training goals so they apply to beach game-like situations. 

Ask yourself..."is it important for you to get into good shape? Or is it more important to become a better beach volleyball player?" Good stuff. 

When you see who's on the University of Beach Volleyball advisory board then you'll understand why their beach volleyball tips make sense.

Beverly Oden has posted some new volleyball drills this week that volleyball recruits 

and players of all ages should check out. 

Beverly recommends to volleyball coaches "to improve hitting, place your players in 

situations that are much tougher than in a match."  

This week Beverly has added three hitting drills:

Three on Three Front Row Attack Drill

Block and Hit Drill

and Hitter vs. Hitter Drill where opposing front row players compete against each
