Clemson Freshman Natalie Patzin Named to ACC All-Academic Team

GREENSBORO, NC – Clemson freshman Natalie Patzin ahs been named to the
2009 ACC All-Academic Volleyball team, as announced by the Atlantic
Coast Conference on Tuesday. Patzin, a native of Naperville, Ill. has
a 4.0 in biological sciences.

To qualify for selection to the ACC All-Academic team,
student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade-point average during the
fall semester and have maintained a 3.0 GPA for their careers.

Patzin is the fourth-ever Tiger to be named to the Academic team, and
the first since 2007; the award started in 2005.

Patzin was a valuable contributor during Clemson’s 23-10 season in
which the Tigers made their third consecutive NCAA appearance. She
played in 117 of 125 total sets, and registered 287 kills, third on
the team. Her 2.45 kills/set average was also third on the team and
she recorded 228 digs, 40 total blocks and 19 aces in her freshman
campaign.

Make ACC All-Academic Team

Junior Brittney Grove, freshman Samantha Rosario and senior Katie Usher were all named to the 2009 ACC All-Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three members of the Maryland volleyball team are on a list of 30 volleyball student-athletes selected to the 2009 ACC All-Academic Team, announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. Junior Brittney Grove, freshman Samantha Rosario and senior Katie Usher all made the cut.

Usher led the team with a .323 hitting percentage and in blocking with 96 total. She finished her career ranked third in block assists (449), third in total blocks (499) and eight in block solos (50). Usher also finished 10^th in hitting percentage (.288) and 10^th in points (1,304.5).

Rosario, a libero from Lindenhurt, N.Y., recorded 484 digs this season, the fourth-best single-season total in program history. Grove recorded two double-doubles on the season, first on Oct. 10 (12 kills and 14 digs) and on Oct. 30. (13 kills and 10 digs). She was also on the list in 2008 as a sophomore.

To qualify for selection to the ACC All-Academic team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade-point average during the fall semester and have maintained a 3.0 GPA for their careers.

All 12 conference schools are represented on the 2009 ACC All-Academic Volleyball Team, led by Duke with six selections, followed by Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia with three picks apiece. Boston College, Florida State, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest each garnered two picks, while Clemson and NC State both had one honoree.

Demon Deacons to host pair of tournaments this spring

 

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest will host two tournaments to highlight its 2010 spring schedule, as announced by head coach Heather Kahl Holmes on Thursday.

 

The Demon Deacons open up their spring slate by hosting an eight-team tournament on March 27. Teams scheduled to participate include Appalachian State, Catawba, Charlotte, Gardner Webb, UNC Greensboro, Wingate and Winthrop.

 

The Deacs will then travel to Durham, NC, to compete in a four-team event at Duke on April 3^rd. High Point and Virginia Commonwealth will be there in addition to the two ACC-foes.

 

Wake will close out the spring by hosting another eight-team tournament on April 10. Those teams include UNC Asheville, Campbell, Elon, High Point, NC Central, Radford and Wingate, who will make its second trip to Winston-Salem.

 

Admission at Reynolds Gymnasium is free for all of Wake Forest's spring competition play dates.

Rosa named to second team, Valentin tabbed honorable mention

 

MIAMI – A pair of FIU volleyball standouts have been named to the 2009 College Volleyball Update (CVU.com) Stellar Spiker teams, as 2009 graduate Yarimar Rosa earned second team honors and current junior Natalia Valentin received honorable mention recognition.

 

In honoring 96 student athletes from across the nation, CVU.com looked for players that exhibited excellence and balance, and, while NCAA statistical rankings were considered, they weren't the only consideration. Also considered in forming the two teams of 14 and the 68 honorable mention selections, was the impact the player had on helping her team succeed, as well as conference awards.

 

First- and second-team selections were formed around the idea of building a team with a starting lineup of seven players and then two players per starting slot were chosen to fill out each team. The honorable mention team did not follow this pattern.

 

Rosa, FIU’s first ever four-time All-American, ended her career as FIU’s all-time leader in career kills (2,083) and career digs (1,053) and is coming off a senior campaign in which she led FIU in kills (382, 4.60 kps), despite missing 11 matches due to injuries.

 

The Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, native earned Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Week accolades on four occasions in 2009 and a league-record 13 times over her career. She has also been a first team All-SBC and All-South Region selection in each of her four years, while earning SBC Freshman of the Year and AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year honors in 2006, and SBC Player of the Year accolades in 2008 and 2009. Also in 2008, Rosa was tabbed SBC Female Student-Athlete of the Year after leading the nation in kills per set.

 

Valentin, who was part of FIU volleyball’s first ever trio of All-America selections in 2009, was largely responsible for setting up an FIU offense which consistently ranked in the top 15 in the country in kills per set and assists per set. Valentin ended the Sun Belt Conference regular season ranked first in the assists per set category and recorded a final season average of 11.87 assists per set.

 

The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native registered 1,448 assists over her junior campaign, a total which marks an FIU all-time single-season record, and she now owns 3,143 career assists to rank third on the all-time charts. Valentin received her first career All-South Region nod this year while also garnering first team All-SBC accolades. She was named to the All-SBC second team in 2008.

Four Cavaliers Named to All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team




Four Cavaliers Named to All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team
Cushman, Dickson and Hill honored for work in classroom and on the court

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia volleyball team placed three Cavaliers on the 2009 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team as announced today by the conference. Senior Lauren Dickson and juniors A.J. Cushman and Sydney Hill have been honored for their work in the classroom and on the court.

Dickson, a commerce major from Austin, Texas, is making her third-straight appearance on the All-ACC Academic Team and is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member. A two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree, Dickson wrapped up her career becoming the 14th Cavalier to tally at least 1,000 career kills. She was named the MVP of the Marriott Jefferson Cup and to Nebraska’s Ameritas Players Challenge All-Tournament Team.

Cushman is majoring in kinesiology and is making her first All-ACC Academic Team appearance. The Richmond, Va., native led the Cavaliers in digs this season and collected a career-high 26 in a win over BYU at the Ameritas Players Challenge. Cushman was named to the all-tournament team at both of Virginia’s home tournaments this year – the Holiday Inn Jefferson Cup and the Marriott Cavalier Classic.

Hill, a kinesiology major, is a repeat honoree on the All-ACC Academic Team. A native of Kalamazoo, Mich., Hill was second on the team in blocks and hitting percentage this year. The junior started every match at middle blocker for the Cavaliers and blocked a season-best six attacks in a win over Miami, in addition to landing a career-high 11 kills at Wake Forest.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Nicole Miller Named Assistant Volleyball Coach

Former Ole Miss assistant follows Alvey to Houston

 

HOUSTON – University of Houston head volleyball coach Molly Alvey has named Nicole Miller assistant volleyball coach.

 

Miller last worked as a graduate assistant with Alvey, at Ole Miss. While working on the Rebels’ staff together, the pair helped guide a successful team for two seasons. Miller not only assisted with practice planning and stats while on staff, but also organized and coached the youth league and summer camps at Ole Miss.

 

Miller helped mentor All-SEC Second Team selection Rachel Kieckhaefer and Freshman All-SEC recipient Regina Thomas, bothrecognized by their league for their superior play.

 

Establishing a close relationship with the players and developing strong communication levels amongst her team are high on the Miller’s priority list. She strongly believes in team building skills as well as improving fundamentals through training.

 

“Nicole is young in her collegiate coaching experience but one to watch for in the near future as her career develops.  She has all the intangibles that are essential to becoming a successful recruiter – she will be fantastic,” Alvey said. “Her knowledge of the game, her insight and her incredible strength in communication are just a few of the additional qualities she will add to this staff.”

 

Miller, a former student athlete at the University of South Carolina, will bring a great amount of experience with her. During her collegiate career, she led her teammates as the captain of the volleyball squad from her sophomore through senior years.  She was also heavily involved in the SEC Good Works Team for two years.

 

Miller continued staying active in the volleyball scene after her collegiate career was finished.  She used her innate ability to coach and mentor, working as the head coach for A5 Volleyball Club out of Atlanta for two years. She was involved with preparing her players for collegiate careers and was heavily active in their recruiting process.

LSU's Cooper Picks Up Volleyball Magazine Second-Team All-America Accolades




LSU's Brittnee Cooper Picks Up Volleyball Magazine 

Second-Team All-America Accolades

 

BATON ROUGE – LSU middle blocker Brittnee Cooper has been named to the Asics/Volleyball Magazine 2009 All-America Second Team, the magazine announced in its February 2010 issue.

 

It’s the second All-America honor for Cooper, who also notched an American Volleyball Coaches Association [AVCA] First-Team selection in December.

 

Cooper, the 2009 SEC Player of the Year, connected for a team-high 410 kills on an astonishing .409 hitting percentage, which is a program single-season record in addition to ranking No. 6 nationally. She knocked double-digit kills 23 times highlighted by a career-best 28 spikes against Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament Second Round. The Houston, Texas product racked up 1,082 career kills.

 

Cooper anchored LSU’s front row defense as the Tigers recorded 2.75 blocks per set en route to a No. 12 national ranking. Her 1.37 blocks per frame not only headlined the SEC but were No. 18 in the nation. She tallied at least five blocks on 15 occasions and finished fifth on the program’s all-time list with 495 total stuffs.

 

LSU put together an impressive 25-7 record in 2009 en route to the program’s first SEC regular season title since 1991. Under head coach Fran Flory, the defending five-time SEC Western Division champions are one of only 20 programs in the nation to appear in the last five NCAA Tournaments.

Wake Forest's Kelsey Jones and Andrea Beck Named To ACC Volleyball All-Academic Team




Wake Forest's Jones and Beck Named To 

ACC Volleyball All-Academic Team

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Wake Forest junior Kelsey Jones and freshman Andrea Beck were named to the 2009 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team, as announced by the conference office, Tuesday.

 

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the fall semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

 

For Jones, it is her second All-Academic Team honor as she also took home the award as a freshman in 2007.

 

A communications major from Ada, Mich., Jones had a tremendous season in 2009 considering she underwent off-season hip surgery just four months prior to the start of the year. She led the team and finished fifth in the ACC with 1,100 assists for an average of 10.28 assists per set. Jones also averaged 2.43 digs per set and was third in the conference with 14 double-doubles.

 

On Oct. 30, against Maryland, Jones recorded her 3,000^th career assist and is now fourth all-time in school history with 3,442 assists. She is also just 161 digs shy of becoming just the second Demon Deacon to notch 3,000 assists and 1,000 career digs.

 

Beck made an immediate impact on the team as a freshman, starting all but one match and playing in 115 of the 118 sets. She topped the squad with a .254 hitting percentage and was third on the team with 257 kills. She was also second on the team with a total 96 blocks.

 

The Winston-Salem, NC, native recorded 10 or more kills 11 times in 2009 and tallied a season-best seven total blocks three times. She opened the year strong with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in her first collegiate match against Charlotte. But her best performance may have come in the four-set win over Maryland on Oct. 30, when she notched 15 kills and hit a solid .478 with four blocks.

 

Beck and Jones are two of just four Demon Deacons to earn ACC All-Academic team honors. The conference started the award in the 2005-06 school year. Erin Borhart and Natalie Mullikin earned the inaugural honor in 2005 as Mullikin went on to become the only Demon Deacon to receive the honor all four years. Jones is now a two-time honoree and Beck, Borhart and Kristin White have each received the award once.

Texas Arlington Head Volleyball Coach Diane Seymour Receives Contract Extension

ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Texas at Arlington director of athletics Pete Carlon has announced a one-year contract extension for head volleyball coach Diane Seymour through the 2011 volleyball season.

 

“Diane Seymour has been a loyal and productive member of the UT Arlington Athletics family as a student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach for 19 years,” Carlon said. “We look forward to her continued leadership for our women’s volleyball program as it is quite evident that she has her team positioned well to achieve significant success both in the classroom and on the court.”

 

Seymour completed her sixth season as head coach of the Mavericks in 2009 where she led her team back to the Southland Conference Tournament. UT Arlington finished with a 12-17 overall record and a sixth-place finish in the Southland Conference with an 8-8 league mark. UTA finished the conference slate with a 7-1 record at home.

 

The Mavericks are 48-28 at home under Seymour in six seasons with a 36-14 conference record at Texas Hall.

 

She has led UT Arlington to a pair of runner-up finishes in league play and guided them to a 24-7 record in 2004, which placed them third in the league standings. In 2006, the Mavericks were Southland Conference Tournament runner-up.

 

Three times the Mavericks have won at least 12 matches in league competition under Seymour, including 12-4 records in 2006 and 2007 and with a 15-5 league record in 2004. In addition, Seymour’s teams have tallied a 21-11 record in five-set matches during her head coaching tenure.

 

Seymour was named interim head coach prior to the 2004 season and was later named the sixth head coach in program history on Nov. 22, 2004.

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team placed an ACC-leading six student-athletes of the ACC All-Academic Volleyball Team, as announced by at the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday.

 

Representing Duke on the academic squad were senior and First Team Academic All-America selection Rachael Moss, junior Claire Smalzer, sophomores Kellie Catanach, Sophia Dunworth and Amanda Robertson and freshman Christiana Gray. To qualify for selection to the ACC All-Academic team, student-athletes must have earned at least a 3.0 grade-point average during the previous fall semester and have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA for their careers.

 

That group has helped Duke not only reach the NCAA Tournament for five consecutive seasons, but also helped the team capture the AVCA Team Academic Award three times in the past four years. The Duke volleyball team posted a 3.522 team GPA during the fall semester, which was the highest of any team at Duke during that semester.

 

Moss, a 5-10 outside hitter, recently wrapped a four-year career that included four All-ACC selections, three appearances on the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention squad and two straight ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America citations. Moss was voted a First Team Academic All-America member as a senior after posting a 3.95 GPA with a major in Political Science. She also finished her career ranked third all-time at Duke in career kills and fourth in both digs and service aces.

 

Smalzer, a 5-10 libero, anchored Duke’s defense again as a junior, leading the team with 441 digs. Behind her effort, Duke held opponents to an ACC-low .160 hitting percentage and surrendered the fewest kills in the conference. A Biological Anthropology major, Smalzer boasts a 3.19 GPA and is a repeat selection to the ACC All-Academic squad.

 

Catanach, a 6-2 sophomore, was one of the top setters in the ACC again as a sophomore and directed a Duke offense that led the conference in kills and assists. In addition to earning AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, she also dished out a career-high 28 service aces and 104 kills along with 217 digs and 65 blocks. Catanach has maintained a 3.116 GPA in her first two years at Duke and is an All-ACC Second Team choice.

 

Dunworth, a 6-1 sophomore, made her second straight appearance on the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team after posting a 3.83 GPA. On the court, she set career highs with a .283 hitting percentage and an average of 2.59 kills per set. Despite taking 43 fewer attacks as a sophomore, she matched her freshman total of 295 kills.

 

Robertson, a 6-3 sophomore, was the third member of Duke’s sophomore class to appear on the All-ACC Academic squad. With a GPA of 3.33, Robertson became a major contributor on the court in her second season, posting 195 kills, 61 blocks and 155 digs. She appeared in all 33 matches while starting 21.

 

Gray, a 6-5 freshman, emerged as not only one of the top freshmen in the ACC, but was also just one of just six freshmen to make the ACC All-Academic Volleyball Team. While leading Duke with a .314 hitting percentage, Gray contributed 200 kills and 113 blocks while starting 32 of Duke’s 33 matches. Gray posted a 3.50 GPA in her first semester at Duke.

Yarimar Rosa Begins Professional Volleyball Career with Las Criollas de Caguas

FIU’s first ever four-time All-American was the first pick in the LVSF lottery draft

 

 

MIAMI – Former FIU volleyball standout Yarimar Rosa has begun her professional volleyball career as she was the first pick in the Liga de Voleibol Superior Femenino (LVSF) lottery draft, chosen by the seven-time LVSF Champions Caguas Creoles.

 

Rosa’s inaugural season in the Puerto Rican professional ranks began on Feb. 12 and will run through April 10, to be followed by play-offs and postseason play. The outside hitter will also once again be playing for the Puerto Rican National Team, as the squad begins practice in May.

 

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue playing after college and at such a high level,” said Rosa. “I am looking forward to representing my country and FIU, and I can’t wait to get back on the court.”

 

Rosa ended her career as FIU’s all-time leader in career kills (2,083) and career digs (1,053) and is coming off a senior campaign in which she led FIU in kills (382, 4.60 kps), despite missing 11 matches due to injuries. The 2009 season saw the Golden Panthers compile an overall record of 32-4 and a perfect Sun Belt Conference regular season record of 17-0, marks that include a second straight SBC regular season title and an SBC Championship runner-up finish.

 

A native of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Rosa earned Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Week accolades on four occasions in 2009 and a league-record 13 times over her career. She has also been a first team All-SBC and All-South Region selection in each of her four years, while earning SBC Freshman of the Year and AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year honors in 2006, and SBC Player of the Year accolades in 2008 and 2009. Also in 2008, Rosa was tabbed SBC Female Student-Athlete of the Year after leading the nation in kills per set.

 

“FIU prepared me to play at the professional level in the same way that the national team prepared me and made me a better player,” said Rosa. “The experience I got playing at a high level here at FIU made me a more mature player with more experience and taught me to handle pressure. These four years also made me a more responsible player – by that I mean being on time, organizing myself and having good time management. I also learned how important communication on the court is to being successful.”

 

Prior to this season’s trio of All-America selections, Rosa was the only volleyball player in FIU history to receive All-America recognition as the 2009 honor marked the fourth of her career. She is the only four-time All-American in school history across all sports.

 

“Yari continues to make history at FIU even after she is done playing collegiate volleyball,” said FIU head coach Danijela Tomic. “She is the first FIU volleyball player who is playing professionally after college. We are very proud and very happy that she will be playing in her home country and in the front of her family and friends in Puerto Rico, but also happy that she is working on finishing her degree at FIU. I have no doubt that she will be very successful as a professional player and that she will continue to represent FIU in the best way possible.”

Gergen Earns Honor For Second Time

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Senior Jill Gergen and freshman Cara Baarendse of the Virginia Tech volleyball squad were named to the 2009 ACC All-Academic team ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced on Tuesday.

Gergen is a two-time member of the conference academic squad. The Topeka, Kan., native played in all 31 matches last season and led the team with 481 digs from the libero position. Gergen received her bachelor's degree in mathematics and will receive her master's in education this summer.

Baarendse, a marketing major, earned ACC All-Freshman honors for her strong campaign in 2009. The Mason, Ohio, native set a Tech freshman record with a .354 hitting percentage on the season, a mark that ranks third all-time among all Hokies. Baarnedse ended the year with 280 kills and 67 blocks.

To qualify for selection to the ACC All-Academic team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade-point average during the fall semester and have maintained a 3.0 GPA for their careers.

Mark Pryor to Join Baylor Volleyball Team Staff

Former Texas A&M Commerce head coach Mark Pryor was the Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year in 2009.

 

WACO, Texas – Mark Pryor, who spent the past two seasons as the head volleyball coach at Texas A&M-Commerce, has been hired as Baylor’s assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, head volleyball coach Jim Barnes announced Tuesday.

 

“We are very happy to have Mark on our staff and in our volleyball family,” Barnes said. “He has been a very successful coach and gotten great experience as a recruiter. Ultimately, being an alumnus of Baylor, he has a real passion for Baylor. I think that will really come across when he is trying to get the top student-athletes to come here. Mark relates to players really well, and I think he is just a really good Baylor fit.”

 

A 10-year collegiate coaching veteran and 1995 Baylor graduate, Pryor started his collegiate career at the University of Louisiana-Monroe (1997-98) as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator, while earning his master’s degree from the school. He then served as the head coach at North Central Texas College for one season (1998-99), before spending one season as a volunteer assistant at New Mexico State (1999) and one year with USA Volleyball (2001). Pryor spent two seasons (2001-02) as the head coach at Southwest Baptist and two seasons (2003-04) as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Boise State, before moving back to ULM as the head coach during the 2005 season. After getting out of collegiate coach for two years, Pryor came back to his most recent position as the head coach at TAMU-Commerce in 2008-09.

 

“This has always been a job that I have had an extreme interest in, getting a chance to work at my alma mater,” Pryor said. “Baylor is not the average university, and that’s what so exciting about this position. I think that the athletic department is in great shape right now, with so many programs that compete on a national level. Coach Barnes is someone I respect, and you can look at what he’s been able to do here, especially this past year, it’s unbelievably exciting to have this opportunity.”

 

During his two seasons at Commerce, Pryor made an immediate impact, leading the program to the top half of the Lone Star Conference for the first time since 2002. The 2008 Lions finished the season 15-11 and seventh in the 14-team LSC with the conference Libero of the Year and four all-LSC selections. In 2009, Pryor took the program to new heights, leading the Lions to a 25-10 record and a fourth-place LSC finish. The 25 wins was the program’s best season in 22 years, while the Lions had the conference Libero of the Year in Lauren Flynn for the second year in a row, and four more all-LSC selections. For his efforts, Pryor was named the 2009 LSC Coach of the Year, while also helping Flynn become the program’s first-ever first team All-America. Pryor’s student-athletes also excelled in the classroom, with Flynn earning all-academic LSC honors and six others earning LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll accolades.

 

While at Louisiana Monroe, Pryor built a .500 program and broke 11 school records, posted the school’s first non-losing season in 19 years and recorded double-digit victories for the first time in 14 years. Pryor was named the 2005 Southland Conference Coach of the Year and recruited the 2005 and 2006 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Newcomer of the Year.

 

At Boise State, Pryor played an integral role in the improvement of the program on the court, while his recruiting efforts brought in two all-Western Athletic Conference selections as well as the first-ever Volleyball Magazine ‘Fab 50’ recruit. On the court, Boise State went from last in the WAC to fourth within a two-year span.

 

While at Southwest Baptist, Pryor revitalized a program that experienced a 10-win improvement from the previous season and was ranked 12th in the nation in blocks per game. He was involved in the entire development of the program, including recruiting, training, fund raising, budget implementation, public relations, and marketing.

 

Prior to his start in collegiate coaching, Pryor spent one season as the head volleyball coach at Edward S. Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, and one season at The Dunham School in Baton Rouge, La., earning District Coach of the Year honors at each stint.

 

A native of Coppell, Texas, Pryor graduated from Coppell High School before coming to Baylor. While at BU, he played on the men’s club volleyball team. Pryor earned his masters degree in public relations/communication from Louisiana-Monroe. He and his wife, Amanda, have a seven-month old son, Myles.

 

Pryor replaces Bryan Bunn, who recently accepted the head coaching position at North Carolina State University, and will begin duties at Baylor on March 1.

Arizona Volleyball Team Announces Spring Schedule

 

The Wildcats will highlight its spring schedule with a trip to Hawaii over spring break

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona volleyball, coming off an NCAA appearance in 2009, will compete in four matches during the spring 2010 season. 

 

UA will begin its spring season by departing for Honolulu, Hawaii on March 12 where it will train under the spring allotted workout hours.  The Cats will also participate in many team-bonding exercises during its time on the Hawaiian beaches. On March 18, Arizona will take on the University of Hawaii in a spring match.

 

After returning back to the mainland, the Cats will host the Arizona Spring Tournament on Saturday, March 27.  Teams confirmed for the tournament are: Arizona State, New Mexico, New Mexico State and Northern Arizona. There is a possibility additional teams may be added.

 

To cap its spring events, Arizona will travel to two California coastline schools in consecutive weekends.  They’ll face UC Santa Barbara on April 10 before heading to San Diego the following weekend to play USD. 

 

Coach Rubio’s team held a record of 19-11 in the fall season, earning a trip back to the postseason after navigating its way through the treacherous Pac-10 slate.  Over the season a record eight teams were ranked through five poll periods. The Wildcats began the season with a school-record 12 wins to open the year.  UA also knocked off No. 13 USC, No. 11 Oregon (twice), No. 21 Washington State, and No. 11 California along the way.

 

Heading into the 2010 fall season, Arizona will have a bevy of veteran players including senior hitters Tiffany Owens and Whitney Dosty and setter Paige Weber.  All three were Pac-10 honorable mention selections in 2009.

Kansas Volleyball Among Nation’s Leaders in Attendance

 

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the fifth consecutive season, Kansas volleyball ranks as one of the most-watched Division I volleyball programs in the nation, according to figures released by the NCAA.

 

An average of 1,018 fans per match came to watch the KU volleyball team in 2009, which ranks as the 44^th-best attendance among 330 D-I volleyball programs. A total of 14,257 patrons came through the doors of the Horejsi Family Athletics Center last season, an increase of almost 500 people from 2008.

 

“The Horejsi Family Athletics Center provides a unique fan experience,” said head coach Ray Bechard. “Our staff and team are very appreciative of those that come out to watch and we feel they are instrumental to the success we have at home.”

 

The Big 12 Conference’s teams achieved the second-best attendance in the nation averaging 1,976 fans per match, less than 15 fans per match below the Big Ten Conference.

 

The Jayhawks have consistently drawn sizable crowds to their home matches and have placed in the top 50 attendance leaders every season since 2005, when the NCAA began keeping records.

Washington State Volleyball Team 2009 Player Awards Announced

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Four Cougar seniors who completed their playing careers were celebrated and year-end awards were handed out at the Washington State Volleyball 2009 awards banquet Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Compton Union Building.

 

The banquet highlighted the 2009 Washington State volleyball team that returned to the NCAA Tournament after a seven-year absence, and feted the accomplishments of seniors Renee Bordelon (Coeur d’Alene), Jackie Albright (Lake Forest, Calif.), Kelly Hyder (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Cassie Robbins (Yakima). Head Coach Andrew Palileo was also honored with a plaque from the conference for being voted the Pac-10 Volleyball Coach of the Year.

 

The P.R.O.W.L. Academic Award went to Albright for having the top grade point average on the team. Albright, a tri-captain and four-year starter at outside hitter, also was awarded the Most Inspirational Award, as voted by the players. The criteria for Most Inspirational is for the student-athlete who has had the greatest impact on her teammates in motivating, encouraging and overall support; one who demonstrates the ability to lead not by her words alone, but through her actions as well. In 2009, Albright was second on team with 2.78 kills per set and tied for second on team with 3.04 digs per set. She was named to Nike Cougar Invite all-tournament team. She was named to the ESPN The Magazine Dist. VIII All-Academic first team with 3.56 GPA in civil engineering and named to Pac-10 All-Academic second team.

 

Middle blocker Cassie Robbins was selected the Most Improved player by her teammates. Robbins was voted the student-athlete who has shown the greatest change from the previous year, based not only on the way she handles herself on the court but off the court as well. Robbins was named to the All-Pac-10 honorable mention team as well as the Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention team. She led the Cougars in blocking with an average of 1.21, fourth-best in Pac-10 and 44th in NCAA.

 

The Coaches’ Coug Award was given to Bordelon. The award is given to the person who is committed to being the ideal student athlete, demonstrated by academic excellence, leadership and commitment to the values of the volleyball program. This individual, throughout her career, has shown what being a Coug is all about. Bordelon, a tri-captain and setter, was named to the All-Pac-10 honorable mention team. She was named MVP of Utah Valley La Quinta Inn & Suites Invite and to the Nike Cougar Invite all-tournament team. Bordelon was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Aug. 31-Sept. 7. Her 11.47 assists per set average was third-best in the Pac-10 and 14th nationally.

 

The Most Valuable Player was awarded to freshman Oceana Bush by a vote of the players. The MVP is given to the student-athlete who the team has the most confidence in. She is the most consistent player at all times and is not only a leader on the court but off the court as well. Bush, from Spokane, was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman first team. She was named the top libero at Utah Valley La Quinta Inn & Suites Invite. Bush set the school record with 39 digs against Arizona State.  She led the Cougars and was fourth-best in the Pac-10 with 4.78 digs per set. She had double-digit digs in 29 of 31 matches in 2009, with 9 digs in the other two matches. Bush was named to COBRA Magazine (www.cobramag.t83.net) All-National Third Team (highlighting the accomplishments of African American players). She was not able to attend the banquet because she was in Colorado at the USA National Team tryouts.

Relating To Success

How are you relating to the people in your life? As a performance and results coach, working with a variety of clients from sporting teams to non-sporting individuals I have extracted five (5) themes that influence healthy relationships, both business and personal. 

1. Take Responsibility

When it comes to maintaining friendships, communication and getting along well with people it is important that everyone takes 100% responsibility. Its too easy to blame other people when things go wrong or there are disagreements, and while this may feel good thinking its not your fault, it also means you are powerless to do anything about the situation. All you can and might do is complain and have excuses why things arent working out.

It is said that in order for others to change, you need to change. When you take responsibility in relationships you regain your personal power and take personal ownership of creating any changes that need to be made. You can take responsibility by asking yourself:

How can I contribute to the relationship?
How can I communicate more effectively to be understood?
How can I come to an agreement?
If you feel negative towards someone, consider What am I deciding about this in order to feel this way?
Focus on what you can do, and you may be surprised at the results. Often problems are in the mind, and by changing your mind, you may see someone else or a situation in a different light and the problem resolves without discussion
Taking responsibility comes first and is an underlying theme for the following points to apply. 

2. Respecting the other persons view of the world

Everyone has a different reality or outlook on life, based on their upbringing and life experiences. Problems can arise when someone makes the mistake of thinking that their view is THE truth or THE reality. It may seem so to them but it is folly to be close-minded and not consider alternatives. Conflicts, and even wars, arise due to differences in beliefs and values. By understanding and respecting that someone may have a different experience, we may consider stepping into their shoes to really see where they are coming from. That entails listening to them whole-heartedly with the intention to understand, not to prove them wrong.

By listening and meeting another at their point of view, we are more likely to gain rapport with them and have a reasonable discussion. This then opens the way to persuade them to your own point of view, just as a martial artist may move first with an opponent before guiding them to the mat.

At best, we can at least appreciate that another person is doing the best they can with what they have available to them, whether it be experience, knowledge or support. Consider this next time someone does something that you makes no sense to you. 

3. Being true to oneself

Do you know of people that do not dare to voice their opinion, or tip-toe around others for fear of rocking the boat? Who does this benefit? It benefits no-one. By not stating how you really feel, you are giving a wrong impression of what you stand for. This can result in people liking/accepting you for someone you are not. The receiver who misses out on your true opinion loses the opportunity to discuss the topic and to either convince you otherwise, or to be swayed by your opinion.

I used to make the mistake of staying quiet or simply agreeing with boyfriends. These relationships didnt last because I wasnt being true to myself. When I committed to being authentic and standing up for my views, I created the best personal relationship I could ever dream of. I am confident that he loves me for who I really am and I dont have to worry about saying the right or wrong thing which is very liberating.

In business, you will gain the respect of your peers for having an opinion and sharing it and because the opinions are your own, you are most likely to be consistent. 

4. Trust

I believe that real trust is when you trust a person, a process or a situation regardless of your past experience or beliefs. Its easy to trust when you agree, and so its not really trust. Being able to let go and trust wholeheartedly when you dont agree now thats trust!

I think that sometimes you have to let go of what you know and put trust in the unknown. That could be a colleague, an employee or perhaps a contractor. People that dont trust others end up doing everything themselves and tiring themselves out. Ironically, by not delegating, it can take longer to get things done; it may not be done as well and sometimes not at all all the things we might have been trying to avoid.

Yes, sometimes people get burned by trusting others but the lesson is not to never trust again but rather to trust wisely. Do the due diligence so that you put the trust in the right people or the right situation. It can save you a lot of time and a lot of work and can give the freedom Im sure you desire. 

5. Stick to the facts it really is not personal

Humans are meaning making machines, putting meaning to nearly every incident that plays out in their lives. A person may see someone do something or say something and decide it means that x equals z. People make the mistake of mind-reading and then turning them into reality. Often the persons past experiences, beliefs and attitude will influence the meaning and they will then act in response to this meaning. To the other person x may in fact equal y and cannot understand the reaction.

The best way for these two people to relate is to talk about the actual facts what really transpired rather than the meaning placed upon it and, as mentioned in point 1, seek to understand the other persons intention. 

Next time you are experiencing difficulty relating, take a step back and look at it from a third persons point of view so that you can see both sides. Keep an open mind and you may surprise yourself with the level of understanding you attain. Decide now to master your relationships and communication and see easy life starts to become.

Nadia Edwards Named Head Volleyball Coach at DePaul

Columbus, Ohio - Women's Volleyball assistant coach Nadia Edwards has been named the head volleyball coach at DePaul. The Frankfort, Ill. native brings a high level of experience to Lincoln Park as a student-athlete at Penn State before a professional playing career overseas along with assistant coaching experience at Ohio State and Ohio University. "Nadia stood out in a large pool of candidates who showed interest in this position," said DePaul athletics director Jean Lenti Ponsetto. "Her coaching and playing experience gives her the background to successfully lead the volleyball program in the BIG EAST and at a regional and national level. We are excited about the future of our volleyball program in her hands." "I want to thank Jean Lenti Ponsetto and Kathryn Statz for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Blue Demon family," said Edwards. "I am extremely honored to be named the next leader of the DePaul volleyball program. DePaul University is such a prestigious academic institution located in one of the finest cities in the nation. I am really excited to hit the ground running and work towards putting DePaul volleyball back on the map." Prior to becoming the fifth head coach at DePaul, she served as an assistant at Ohio State for two seasons. With the Buckeyes, she helped the program reach the second round of the 2009 NCAA Championship after finishing fourth in the Big Ten. Edwards tutored a pair of All-Big Ten honorees while working with the middle hitters. She also coordinated travel, camps and clinics, and oversaw community outreach programs. "Nadia and I have been together for over five years and, though it is hard to see her leave, I'm excited and very happy for this new chapter in her life," said Ohio State head coach Geoff Carlston. "I have no doubt she is going to do great things at DePaul. They are getting a high quality coach and a tremendous person." After a stint as a graduate assistant at Virginia Tech, Edwards joined Carlston and the Ohio University volleyball staff in May 2005. The Bobcats claimed three straight Mid-American Conference titles and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2005 NCAA Championship. Ohio made three straight NCAA appearances and was ranked in the AVCA top 25 for 42 consecutive weeks. Edwards played volleyball professionally for three years, both in the United State and overseas. She competed in the A1 European League for two years as a team captain and starting outside hitter for the Glarus (Switzerland) squad in 2004-05 after playing the opposite position for the Granada (Spain) team in 2003-04. Edwards also played in the United States Professional Volleyball League in 2001-02 for the St. Louis Quest. Edwards graduated from Penn State in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in business marketing.  She lettered four years in volleyball for the Nittany Lions under head coach Russ Rose. Edwards was a middle hitter on a squad that won four Big Ten championships and competed in the NCAA Final Four three years in a row. Her team compiled a 71-2 record and won a national championship in 1999 while earning national runner-up finishes in 1997 and 1998. Six New Mexico Volleyball Players Attend USA National Team Open Tryouts

Opportunity to gain international experience

 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- Six Lobo volleyball student-athletes are spending the weekend at the U.S. Olympic Training Center at the USA Volleyball National Team Open Tryouts, Feb. 19-21.  Seniors-to-be Taylor Hadfield, Lisa Meeter and Jade Michaelsen, and juniors-to-be Allison Buck, Ashley Rhoades and Kelly Williamson are among 177 participants in the largest-ever single tryout sponsored by USA Volleyball.

 

Hugh McCutcheon, the U.S. Women’s National Team head coach, will lead the evaluation process for the tryout. Karch Kiraly (U.S. Women’s National Team) and Jamie Morrison (U.S. Women’s National Team) will also take part in the player evaluations.

 

Athletes who have remaining collegiate eligibility may still participate in the program with participation beginning May 2010 or when their scholastic calendar ends.  The U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryout is the only path for a collegiate volleyball player with remaining eligibility to access the U.S. National Team.

 

Previous National Team tryouts have led to Lobos gaining the opportunity to play internationally with the USA Developmental/BIP Team – Jeanne Fairchild (2007), Gayle Tripp (2007), Rose Morris (2008), Buck (2009) and Rhoades (2009).

University of Central Arkansas Chloe Smith, Cristin Curl Invited Tryout For US National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo – University of Central Arkansas volleyball
players Chloe Smith and Cristin Curl have been invited to the U.S.
Women's National Team Open Tryout set for this weekend at the U.S.
Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. They are two of 176
student-athletes from 82 represented colleges in the tryouts.

This is the second year to tryout for Smith, the two-time Southland
Conference Player and Student-Athlete of the Year. The 6-2 San Diego
native will be trying out at opposite hitter.

Cristin Curl, a 5-9 junior-to-be from Amarillo, Texas, is coming off a
season where she led the Southland Conference in digs and was named the
league's Libero of the Year.

Up for grabs is a spot on the USA Women’s National Team, which includes
roster spots for the Pan American Cup and the World Championship Roster.
More athletes will be selected for the USA Senior A2, which will take
place in Phoenix, Ariz.

" I am very proud of both of these young ladies for going to this tryout
and competing against some of the best collegiate players in the
nation," said UCA head coach Steven McRoberts. "It is a great experience
and will only make them better.

"Chloe is coming off two of the greatest seasons in UCA history and she
really wants to go out on top in her senior year. She is always looking
for ways to improve her game and this is a great opportunity for her.

"We need Cristin to have another big year this fall and I know she is
confident after being named the Southland libero of the year. She is
definitely one of the most competitive players on the squad, so I know
she will push herself big time this weekend.

"I am looking forward to talking to them this weekend and when they get
back about their experience there. These type of opportunities can only
help our program as we anticipate the post-season this fall."

Auburn Volleyball Team Announces 2010 Fall Schedule

AUBURN, Ala. – After a solid 2009 season, the Auburn volleyball team
and head coach Wade Benson announced the upcoming 2010 fall schedule
Tuesday. Highlighting the schedule will be matches against eight teams
that participated in the 2009 NCAA tournament, as well as three
tournaments and 14 home matches.

“Our overall strength of schedule this upcoming season is very
high,” head coach Wade Benson said. “We’re facing handful of
NCAA tournament participants in the preseason and the SEC will be much
stronger top to bottom.”

The eight NCAA participants Auburn will face include: Middle Tennessee,
Duke, Cincinnati, College of Charleston, LSU, Tennessee, Kentucky and
Florida.

Auburn opens the 2010 season at home in the Student Activities Center,
playing host to the two-day War Eagle Invitational on August 27-28. The
team will face Georgia Southern, Troy, Tennessee State and
Bethune-Cookman.

The Tigers follow with another two-day tournament in Murfreesboro,
Tenn., on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. The September
4-5 tournament features Middle Tennessee, Auburn, Duke and Southern
Miss. The Tigers stick to the road for a weekday match at Troy on Sept.
7.

In the final tournament of the early season, Auburn will travel to
Charleston, S.C., for the College of Charleston Tournament, Sept. 10-11.
The Tigers will face host College of Charleston, Oregon State and
Cincinnati.

Auburn opens its SEC schedule on the road as the team travels to 2009
SEC regular season champion LSU on Sept. 17 and Arkansas on Sept. 19.

The team returns to the Student Activities Center on Sept. 24 to face
the SEC East champion Kentucky and then follows with a match-up against
Tennessee on Sept. 26.

The Tigers host three more SEC home matches against Mississippi State
(Oct. 1), in-state rival Alabama (Oct. 3) and Georgia (Oct. 6). Auburn
then takes to the road for matches at Ole Miss (Oct. 8), Florida (Oct.
15) and South Carolina (Oct. 17).

The second half of SEC play begins the following week as the Tigers
host Arkansas (Oct. 22) and LSU (Oct. 24) and hit the road to face
Tennessee (Oct. 29) and Kentucky (Oct. 31). Three matches with South
Carolina (Nov. 5), Florida (Nov. 7) and Ole Miss (14) closes out
Auburn’s home schedule.

Auburn wraps up the regular season with three-straight away matches
starting at Alabama on Nov. 19. The Tigers are at Mississippi State on
Nov. 21 and close out the season at Georgia on Nov. 22.

“We’re really looking forward on improving our finish in the SEC
West last season,” Benson said. “Matches to highlight for us are the
ones at LSU and Arkansas. These will be the teams to beat in the West
and we’re anxious for the challenge.”

The Tigers are coming off one of the team’s most successful seasons
in 10 years, finishing with a 16-15 overall mark and an 8-12 record in
the Southeastern Conference. Auburn concluded the year second in the SEC
West and tied for fifth overall in the league. The 16 overall wins and
eight SEC victories were the most the team has had since 1999.

Clemson Volleyball Team Adds Derek Schmitt to Staff

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson Volleyball head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover
announced the hiring of Derek Schmitt to staff as an assistant coach
on Friday. Schmitt, a 1995 graduate of Eastern Nazarene College in
Quincy, MA, comes to Clemson after serving as the Head Women’s
Volleyball Coach and Assistant Director of Athletics at Southern
Wesleyan University since 2005.

“I am very excited to announce that Derek Schmitt will be joining our
staff at Clemson,” said Hoover. “He has handled many different areas
during his time at Southern Wesleyan, in addition to coaching their
volleyball team, which made him an extremely attractive candidate for
this position.”

 Schmitt had extensive responsibilities at Southern Wesleyan,
including the coordination of all travel, maintaining academic
progress, overseeing the travel budgets of 10 teams, performing sports
information duties, in addition to his duties as a head volleyball
coach. He has also worked with Club South Volleyball in Spartanburg,
SC, since 2008, a program which turned out Clemson players two-time
All-ACC selection Lia Proctor and Lisa Jedlicka.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the Clemson Volleyball program
and the entire Clemson Athletics family.  I am very thankful to Coach
Hoover and the administration for providing me with this opportunity.
Having lived in nearby Central, S.C. for the past five years, I've
been following athletics at Clemson and specifically the volleyball
program.  The volleyball program has had a lot of success and it is a
privilege to be a part of it going forward.”

As part of his Assistant Coach post, Schmitt will be responsible for
many of the team’s day-to-day operations and administration. He will
also be responsible for the coordination of travel as well as assist
in on-court strategy and execution.

Schmitt lives in Central, SC and has been married to Monique Schmitt
for 15 years. The two have a daughter, Annika, who just turned five
years old.

The Tigers participated in the NCAA Tournament for the third
consecutive season in 2009, going 23-10 on the year. Four players were
named to the All-ACC team, and East-Region Freshman of the Year and
All-ACC member Sandra Adeleye returns, as does ACC All-Freshman team
honoree Alexa Rand for 2010. The Tigers have signed a solid,
four-member class for 2010 as well.

Lady Vol Trio to Take Part in USA Volleyball National Team Tryouts

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Three members of the University of Tennessee volleyball team, Chloe Goldman, Nikki Fowler and Kayla Jeter, will all head to Colorado Springs, Col., this weekend to take part in the U.S. Women’s National Team tryouts held by USA Volleyball at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

                                     

Hugh McCutcheon, the U.S. Women’s National Team head coach, will lead the evaluation process for the tryout. Karch Kiraly (U.S. Women’s National Team) and Jamie Morrison (U.S. Women’s National Team) will also take part in the player evaluations.

                                                                                               

As part of the tryout, athletes will compete for spots on the U.S. Women’s Volleyball National Team program and the U.S. Women’s Senior A2 teams. The U.S. Women’s National Team program is open to athletes who have concluded their college eligibility and who wish to train full-time. This program could begin as early as February 2010, or when an athlete’s scholastic or professional club season has concluded. Athletes who will have remaining collegiate eligibility may still participate in the program with participation beginning May 2010 or when their scholastic calendar ends.

 

Athletes in college with collegiate eligibility remaining for the 2010 season and not selected to the USA Women’s National Team may be invited to participate in the USA Senior A2 Team. This program is tentatively scheduled to take place in Phoenix from May 24 through June 2. A projected 24 athletes will be invited to participate in the program, which will include training and competition in the 2010 USA Adult Open Championships in the Open Division from May 29-June 1. USA Volleyball considers the event as the National Championship for the sport of volleyball in the United States.

 

This tryout is open to current college-age athletes and older, as well as high school athletes born in 1991 or earlier. All tryout participants must be U.S. citizens and are required to provide proof of valid health insurance coverage upon their arrival at the tryout.

 

The U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryout is the only path for a collegiate volleyball player with remaining eligibility to access the U.S. National Team and have an opportunity to be named to the 2010 FIVB World Championship to be played Oct. 29-Nov. 14.

WSU Freshman Volleyball Player Oceana Bush at USA National Volleyball Team Tryouts

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State volleyball player Oceana Bush will participate in the annual open tryouts for the U.S. Women’s National Team and Associated Training Programs, Feb. 19-21, 2010, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo.

 

Bush, a freshman libero/defensive specialist from Spokane, Wash., was a Pacific-10 Conference All-Freshman team first team selection last fall. Bush led the NCAA Tournament participant Cougars’ 2009 team in digs with 531 and had a 4.78 digs per set average which was fourth-best in the Pac-10. She set the school record with 39 digs in the five-set match win over Arizona State Oct. 3. Bush tallied double-digit digs in 29 of WSU’s 31 matches and had 9 digs in the other two matches. She was named the top libero at the Utah Valley La Quinta Inn & Suites Invite.

Washington State wanted to provide her this opportunity so that Oceana could go to Colorado Springs and showcase her abilities.”

Elkhart Athlete Announces Intention To Join Indiana State Volleyball As Walk On

Elkhart Memorial Defensive Specialist set to join team for 2010 campaign

 

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Indiana State volleyball coach Traci Dahl announced today that Lindsey Leonard has announced her intention to join the Sycamore volleyball team as a walk-on beginning this fall. Leonard has already been accepted into Indiana State University.

 

“I am thrilled to welcome Lindsey to the volleyball team here at Indiana State,” Dahl said. “She possesses many skills that will help our defense and passing for this upcoming season. She is an extremely hard worker and will compliment the players already here at ISU.”

 

Leonard is a member of the Elkhart Memorial team that was Indiana 4A runner-ups in both 2007 and 2009 and a state finalist in 2008. Elkhart Memorial has also won the NLC eight years in a row. The 5’-5” defensive specialist has been invited to try out for the 4A All-Star team.

Washington State Volleyball Camp Schedules Announced

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State Volleyball Camp schedules are set for the 2010 summer, Cougar Head Coach Andrew Palileo announced Tuesday. Five opportunities for ages five years through seniors in high school will be offered during the first two weeks of July on the WSU Pullman campus.

The following dates and times are for the 2010 Cougar Volleyball Camps:

 

July 7-8, Youth Camp (girls and boys ages 5-9 years)

9 a.m. - Noon, both days

Cost: $100 per camper

The youth camp provides a fun opportunity for beginners to learn the basics and fundamentals of the game. Each camper will learn the basics of passing, hitting, and setting.

 

July 9-10 All Skills Camp (ages 10-15 years)

July 9: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.; July 10: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Cost: $275 per Overnight camper; $250 per Day camper

The All Skills Camp is especially designed to prepare athletes for the move up to higher competition with an emphasis on further development of fundamental skills. Specialized instruction includes individual skills for attacking, setting, and defense within a team concept.

 

July 12-14 Team Camp (Grades 9-12)

July 12: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.; July 13: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; July 14: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

                Cost: Overnight teams $275 per athlete; $100 per coach

                Cost: Day teams $225 per athlete; $75 per coach

The Team Camp is designed to give high school teams the opportunity to practice together in a collegiate atmosphere prior to the 2010 season. Competition is the focus of the camp but is also includes individualized attention from the WSU staff and players. Coaches at the camp will have the opportunity to take part in our Coaches Clinic.

 

July 14 Team Tournament Only, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

                Cost $150 per team

The Team Tournament is completely separate from the Team Camp. Team Tournament Camp is an opportunity for teams to compete in a one-day tournament against other high schools.

 

July 15-17 Elite/Prospect Camp (Graduating in class of 2011, 2012, 2013)

July 15: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.; July 16: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; July 17: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Cost $400 per Overnight camper; Cost $350 per Day camper

The Elite/Prospect Camp offers the highest level of training to the experienced players. The camp is designed to expose campers to the collegiate practice environment and is a great opportunity for athletes to raise their skill level in a highly competitive environment and get a chance to see what it is like to play at Washington State University. This camp allows prospects the opportunity to specialize in a position: outside, middle, and defensive specialist.
