McNeese Volleyball Team Releases 2012 Volleyball Schedule
LAKE CHARLES--- McNeese State head volleyball coach Terry Gamble released the Cowgirls’ 2012 schedule and it is one that has a very competitive non-conference schedule prior to the Southland Conference schedule.
“I really excited about our schedule. With eight new players it is going to give us the opportunity to see where we have to go to become good right away,” said Gamble.
The Cowgirls will begin the year with three straight tournaments, two on the road and will host the Big Daddy’s Invitational. McNeese will open the season August 24-25 at the Michigan State Tournament where the Cowgirls will face a Top 25 team in Michigan State. The Cowgirls will also play Eastern Kentucky and Youngstown State to conclude tournament play.
The following weekend, McNeese will take part in the UL-Lafayette Tournament where they will face C-USA member in Mississippi State, future Southland Conference member in Houston Baptist and host UL-Lafayette.
Concluding regular season play will be the Cowgirls’ own Big Daddy’s Invitational (Sept. 7-8). Bethune-Cookman, Hampton, Arkansas State and Baylor will make up the tournament field.
“Our tournament should be a lot of fun and a great experience. We open the tournament against Bethune-Cookman on Friday, then face Arkansas State who won their division in the Sun Belt last year before we face Big 12 member Baylor to conclude the tournament,” said Gamble.
The Southland Conference scheduled will begin Sept. 13 with the Cowgirls opening league play at Southeastern La. This season, Oral Roberts comes into the league and the Cowgirls will travel to Tulsa on Oct. 6 and will host ORU on Nov. 1.
McNeese will play New Orleans and Prairie View A&M in the only non-conference matches this season. The Cowgirls will travel to UNO Sept. 18 and will have a home and home match against Prairie View.
The Southland Conference Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 16-18 in Conway, Arkansas and will be hosted by Central Arkansas.
“I’m really looking forward to our schedule. It features good teams that will test thes skills of our young team. I look forward to watching my team grow and compete throughout the season.”
