The Tigers will meet NCAA Elite 8 qualifier and host Texas (Aug. 24) before taking on NCAA Tournament participant San Diego (Aug. 25) and Cal Poly (Aug. 25).
LSU returns home and faces an elite field at the Tiger Classic on Aug. 31-Sept. 1. The Tigers face Rice (Aug. 31) along with NCAA Tournament members Washington (Aug. 31) and Purdue (Sept. 1).
LSU concludes its challenging non-conference slate at the Carolina Classic on Sept. 7-8 hosted by the University of North Carolina. There, the Tigers will square off with a trio of NCAA Tournament participants in North Carolina (Sept. 7), Middle Tennessee (Sept. 8) and Western Michigan (Sept. 8).
“We know we’re going to have to play with a high level of execution and intensity every time we take the floor if we want to continue to build on LSU volleyball’s championship tradition,” head coach Fran Flory said. “Matching up against the likes of Texas, San Diego, Purdue, Washington and North Carolina will prepare us for the rigors of the SEC.”
SEC volleyball will have 13 teams with Texas A&M set to join LSU in the Western Division, while Missouri will participate in the Eastern Division.
For the seventh straight season, the Tigers will play 20 conference matches. The SEC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament will go to the league's regular season champion.
Released in mid-March, the 2012 SEC volleyball schedule is not based on any other previous or future scheduling formats. The SEC Athletics Directors are currently in the process of formulating scheduling principles for the 2013 season and beyond.
LSU will play a home-and-home series with eight teams which include Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee. The Tigers have single matches slated against Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

“As a whole, the SEC is going to be extremely tough especially with the addition of quality programs like Missouri and Texas A&M,” Flory said. “Our players know how hard they’ll have to work and what it takes to be successful at a championship level. As a coaching staff, we’ll have to manage each challenge and put every player into a situation where they can be successful on a consistent basis. We have a lot of work to do before taking the floor on August 24, but it will be exciting to see how this group develops.”
LSU’s seven consecutive SEC Western Division titles highlighted by the overall league championship in 2009 is the second longest streak in SEC history. The Tigers are only behind Florida’s 14-year run on top of the SEC's Eastern Division from 1995-2008 LSU also has garnered a 159-55 record, secured six NCAA Tournament appearances and notched 24 All-SEC selections since 2005.

In addition, the Blue Devils’ non-conference foes went 232-145 (.615) in2011 as Milwaukee won the Horizon League, Samford won the Southern Conference and Western Kentucky won the Sun Belt, while Louisville captured the Big East regular season title.
“Our 2012 schedule gives us the opportunity to play several strong opponents in the early part of the year as we prepare for the always challenging ACC season,” said head coach Jolene Nagel. “After losing four outstanding seniors to graduation, this past spring gave the team a chance to gel together as a group. They set new standards and levels of accountability for themselves and they focused on really developing both their game and the team’s culture. I think this will be an important step as we welcome five new freshmen to our Blue Devil family.”
Coming off its 17th NCAA Championship appearance, Duke adds five freshmen to its core of nine returning letterwinners from last season’s 20-9 squad. The 2011 Blue Devils also finished 15-5 in the conference and secured a bid to the NCAA Tournament for an ACC record seventh consecutive year.

Following the Coke/Michigan Invitational, Duke kicks off the ACC slate against in-state rivals N.C. State and North Carolina. The Blue Devils and the Wolfpack meet Friday, September 21 in Raleigh before Duke takes on the Tar Heels Sunday, September 23 in Chapel Hill.
The Blue Devils head off to Florida the next weekend to face Florida State and Miami, two teams that finished No. 1 and No. 2 in the conference a season ago. Duke battles the Hurricanes, a top-20 team in last season’s final RPI rankings, Friday Sept. 28 then goes up against 2011 NCAA semifinalist FSU Sunday, September 30.
The Blue Devils return home for two straight weeks with a Friday/Saturday showdown with Boston College and Maryland October 5-6. Duke plays host to Clemson Friday, October 12 before welcoming Georgia Tech to Cameron Saturday, October 13.

Southern Miss Volleyball Announces 2011 Volleyball Schedule Four in-season tournaments and 12 home matches highlight the 2011 slate
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball head coach Abbey Sutherland announced the release the 2011 schedule that will feature four tournaments and a total of 12 home dates for the Golden Eagles.
"I’m very happy with this schedule because we are starting out at home," Sutherland said. “This is going to be a challenging schedule for us. We have added some high caliber teams with high RPIs and they come from good conferences. I expect us to have some challenges, but I also believe we will be successful.”
Southern Miss opens the 2011 campaign by hosting Jackson State, Northwestern State and Chattanooga in the Southern Miss Invitational, Aug. 26-27, before traveling to Iowa State for a tournament, Sept. 2-3, which includes Iowa State, Arizona State and Iowa. Iowa State participated in the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Golden Eagles also will play in the Milwaukee Invitational, Sept. 9-10, with teams Milwaukee, Marquette and Akron, then travel to the Houston Baptist Invitational, Sept. 16-17, that include teams Houston Baptist, Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana Tech.
The league will continue to use the same format for the upcoming season, playing a 20-match conference schedule instead of the 16-match slate in the past. The Golden Eagles will play every member twice with the exception of UTEP and UCF.
"Conference USA is really interesting because there hasn’t been a back-to-back champion for the past eight years," Sutherland said. “You don’t know what to expect and every match is going to be tough. All of the coaches in the league have worked hard together with the common goal to increase the RPI and getting more teams in the NCAA Tournament. We adopted a non-conference scheduling philosophy and that is something I believe will help Conference USA. Not only do I want to schedule tougher teams to help our RPI, but also want to help the conference’s overall RPI as well.”
Southern Miss opens C-USA play at Houston (Sept. 23) and Rice (Sept. 25). After playing 11 consecutive matches on the road, the Eagles return home to host Memphis (Sept. 30) and UAB (Oct. 2).
From there, Southern Miss travels to C-USA reigning champion and NCAA participant Tulsa for two matches (Oct. 8-9) then returns home for a weekend series against East Carolina (Oct. 14) and Marshall (Oct. 16).
The Black and Gold head to Tulane for a mid-week match (Oct. 19) and continue to UTEP (Oct. 21) before returning to Reed Green Coliseum to host UCF (Oct. 23).
Southern Miss returns to the road for a weekend series at Marshall (Oct. 28) and East Carolina (Oct. 30), before hosting SMU in two matches (Nov. 4-5).
The Golden Eagles conclude their road schedule at UAB (Nov. 11) and Memphis (Nov. 12) before returning home to close out the regular season against Rice (Nov. 18), Houston (Nov. 20) and Tulane (Nov. 22).
There will not be a Conference USA Tournament under the new conference format as the regular season champion will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Southern Miss returns nine letterwinners that include nine of the top 10 players from a year ago that helped the Golden Eagles finish with a 19-12 overall record and 12-8 in league play. Six starters are among the nine letterwinners. Sutherland welcomes five newcomers to this year’s squad.
BATON ROUGE – The six-time defending SEC Western Division champion LSU volleyball team announced its 2011 schedule Thursday highlighted by 12 matches versus 2010 NCAA Tournament foes.

The Tiger Classic features Alcorn State (Aug. 26), Louisiana-Lafayette (Aug. 26), Jacksonville State (Aug. 27) and NCAA Tournament participant Miami, Fla. (Aug. 27). The last time LSU opened its season at home was in 2007.
“We’re extremely thrilled to be the first team to start the 2011-12 LSU athletic season at home,” head coach Fran Flory said. “Our young team led by All-SEC performers Desiree Elliott and Michele Williams will play an up-tempo, exciting brand of volleyball. This group is looking forward to the opportunity to uphold LSU volleyball’s championship tradition. We still have a lot of work to do before taking the floor on August 26, but it will be exciting to see how this group develops.”
Before entering SEC action, LSU hits the road for back-to-back tournaments hosted by New Mexico State and Western Kentucky. The Tigers square off with Arkansas-Little Rock (Sept. 2), Grambling (Sept. 2) and New Mexico State (Sept. 3) before taking on Wake Forest (Sept. 9), Xavier (Sept. 9) and NCAA participant Western Kentucky (Sept. 10).
The SEC schedule will have a home-and-home series with each league school in leau of a conference tournament for the sixth straight season.
LSU heads to Ole Miss (Sept. 16) and Alabama (Sept. 18) for SEC opening weekend. The Tigers open a three-match home stand as Mississippi State (Sept. 25) along with NCAA participants Tennessee (Sept. 30) and Kentucky (Oct. 2) visit the PMAC.
LSU also faces Georgia (Oct. 14), NCAA Second Round foe Auburn (Oct. 16), Alabama (Oct. 21), NCAA participant Ole Miss (Oct. 23), NCAA Sweet 16 qualifier Florida (Nov. 11), South Carolina (Nov. 13) and Arkansas (Nov. 26) at home.
“The SEC made a statement by sending six teams to the NCAA’s last season,” Flory said. “We know that any team can win on any given day. Each team has talented players, and the coaches in this league challenge you to be ready every single match.”

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Seven matches versus 2010 NCAA Tournament teams that advanced to the Sweet 16 or further, including Final Four participant Texas and national power Minnesota, highlight the 2011 Kansas volleyball schedule. In all, KU will play 10 matches against foes that appeared in the postseason last year.
Four of those contests will take place in Lawrence at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center as part of KU’s 11 scheduled home matches. The Jayhawks’ home slate opens Sept. 2-3 for the Jayhawk Invitational as Kansas welcomes Belmont, Appalachian State and the Summit League Player of the Year Kelli Fiegen with South Dakota State.
Prior to its home tournament, Kansas makes its season debut at the Georgia Bulldog Invitational Aug. 26-27 in Athens, Ga. The tournament opens Friday when KU faces Florida A&M. One day later, the Jayhawks take on last year’s Big South regular-season champion Liberty before going up against the SEC’s Georgia.
The following weekend KU will face one of its toughest stretches of schedule when it participates in the Northern Iowa Invitational, Sept. 9-10 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Jayhawks begin the tournament taking on host UNI as they look to avenge a five-set heartbreaking loss to the Panthers last season in Lawrence. UNI ended the 2010 season ranked No. 14 in the nation despite losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
On Sept. 10 Kansas faces the No. 10 overall seed from last year’s tournament and Sweet 16 participant Minnesota. The weekend concludes with a match versus St. Louis later that day.
Kansas then makes a stop in Chicago, Ill., for the DePaul Invitational, Sept. 16-17, in its last action before Big 12 Conference play. There, the Jayhawks will play matches versus San Diego State, DePaul and Valparaiso, which returns last year’s national digs leader in Taylor Root.
“We face some strong teams during our early season tournaments that will really prepare us for another competitive year in the Big 12,” said head coach Ray Bechard, who will begin his 14th season with the Jayhawks this fall. “It is a demanding schedule but I know our players are up for the challenge.”
With the departure of Colorado and Nebraska from the Big 12, a new eight team, 16-match conference format begins Sept. 24 as KU travels to perennial power Texas. Last season the Longhorns made their second-straight Final Four appearance and finished with a No. 4 national ranking in the AVCA coaches’ poll.
KU’s Big 12 home slate begins Sept. 28 versus Iowa State, another NCAA Tournament participant a year ago and top 25 team. Other notable home matches include in-state rival Kansas State (Oct. 19), border rival and Sweet 16 team Missouri (Nov. 2), Texas (Nov. 5) and Sweet 16 opponent Oklahoma (Nov. 16).
The final match of the year will also mark Senior Night when Kansas welcomes Baylor on Nov. 26.

Tigers to play 12 matches against 2010 NCAA Tournament Teams.
June 29, 2011
CLEMSON, SC – Head Coach Jolene Jordan Hoover announced the 2011 Clemson Volleyball schedule on Wednesday. The Tigers’ slate features 12 matches against teams who participated in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers will open with an intrasquad Orange and White scrimmage on Aug. 19 at 5:00 pm in Jervey Gym, the final exhibition before regular season play.
Collegiate volleyball schedules typically feature four tournaments at the beginning of the year before the ACC’s 20-match schedule kicks in. This year, Clemson will open the season with the 21st annual Big Orange Bash, which takes place August 26-27 in Jervey Gym, and features Clemson, Loyola (MD), Tennessee State, and South Carolina State.
The Tigers then gear up for a tough trip to Florida, as they take on the Gators, who were the top overall seed in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, and take on Florida Atlantic and Jacksonville in that round-robin from Sept. 2-3. The Tigers will then travel to Orlando on Sept. 4 to take on 2010 Final Four participant Southern Cal.
“We definitely have a challenging schedule and hopefully it will be a good year for a tough schedule with everyone returning,” said Jolene Jordan Hoover, who has guided Clemson to eight NCAA Tournaments. “It is important for us to try to get our RPI as high as possible in order to make the NCAA tournament, and it is a pretty exciting opportunity to play both Florida and Southern California. They are both very well-respected programs with rich volleyball history and those matches will make us a better team.”
The Tigers then head to Charleston, SC for the unofficial state tournament, featuring the College of Charleston, Winthrop, and South Carolina, from Sept. 9-10.
Clemson then holds the Clemson Classic from Sept. 14-16. This year, the group includes Furman and ACC foe Georgia Tech.
Clemson gets in to full conference play on Sept. 23 at Wake Forest and takes on Sweet 16 participant Duke on the 24th in Durham. Clemson plays four at home before heading on the road for eight of the next ten, including trips to NCAA Participants Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina.
“The conference has so much parity that every match is a battle,” said Hoover. “The stretch of eight out of ten on the road for us is a tough draw, we'll just have to keep our bags packed and keep moving. We must take it one match at a time, be in every match, and give ourselves opportunities- I am proud of how competitive we are as a team.”
The ACC sent five teams to the Big Dance in 2010, tied for the most all time. Four of the teams advanced in the tournament, also a record. Clemson finished sixth in a tight ACC race, snapping a streak of three straight tournament appearances.
The Tigers host Florida State and Miami on Nov. 18-19 before closing the regular season on Nov. 23 against Georgia Tech.
Clemson was 18-13 and 9-11 in league play in 2010, but returns 96.0 percent of its kills and 93.4 percent of its blocking. Clemson led the ACC and was 11th nationally in blocking, led by rising junior Alexa Rand, the ACC’s individual leader, who averaged 1.45 per set last season, good for 8th nationally, and 23 teams’ totals.
Two-time All-ACC selection Sandra Adeleye is also back for her junior season, as she ranked in the top ten in the ACC in kills per set and blocks per set. University of Miami Hurricanes Volleyball Team Announces 2011 Fall Schedule Miami to play seven NCAA Tournament teams from 2010 campaign.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team announced its 2011 fall schedule on Friday. The Hurricanes will play a total seven teams that participated in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
Under the direction of head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch, the University of Miami volleyball team will participate in its 11th season since the return of the program in 2001. The Hurricanes, participants in two consecutive NCAA Tournaments, will take part in 29 regular season matches.
A season ago, the Canes finished with a 23-9 overall record (13-7 Atlantic Coast Conference), and finished third in the league standings. UM went to Bloomington, Ind. for its match against the second-seeded and host Indiana Hoosiers.
UMiami takes part in three regular season tournaments to open the year, including the Hurricane Invitational at the James L. Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables.
Miami will begin the year at the Tiger Classic, hosted by LSU, where Miami will first meet Jacksonville State in the season-opener on Friday, Aug. 26. The following day, the Canes will face Louisiana-Lafayette and host LSU. The LSU Tigers went to last year’s NCAA Tournament, falling to Tulsa in the opening round.
The following weekend, the Canes travel across the country to Malibu, Calif., participating in the Pepperdine Asics Classic hosted by the Pepperdine Waves. Once there, UMiami will take on UC Santa Barbara, Georgia and the host Waves in a two-day affair, Sept. 2-3.
The Canes conclude the regular season tournament schedule at home with the Hurricane Invitational. UM has won two of the last three invitational tournaments, including last season with wins over San Francisco, Bethune-Cookman and FIU. The Hurricane Invitational for 2011 features teams from Florida A&M, Auburn and Oklahoma. Miami opens with FAMU (Sept. 8) and then faces Auburn (Sept. 9) and Oklahoma (Sept. 10).
Both Auburn and Oklahoma advanced to last year’s NCAA Tournament, with the Sooners going to the Sweet 16 before falling to eventual champion Penn State. Auburn advanced to the second round.
The ACC season opens with Miami traveling to in-state rival Florida State (Sept. 14), followed by a trip to Virginia Tech (Sept. 23) and Virginia (Sept. 25). In fact, five of the first seven ACC matches for the Hurricanes will be away from the James L. Knight Sports Complex.
Wake Forest (Sept. 30) and Duke (Oct. 2) visit Coral Gables a week later. And UMiami gets back on the road the following weekend with a two-match swing along venerable Tobacco Road as the Canes face NC State (Oct. 7) and North Carolina (Oct. 9).
Clemson and Georgia Tech travel to Coral Gables on Oct. 14 and 16, and UM gets back to the road for its northern-most road trip at Boston College (Oct. 21) and Maryland (Oct. 23) a week later.
The Hurricanes have their longest home stand of the year to close October and begin November. UM welcomes the UVa Cavaliers (Oct. 28), Virginia Tech Hokies (Oct. 30), UNC Tar Heels (Nov. 4) and NC State Wolfpack (Nov. 6).
A four-match road trek ensues, with UMiami traveling in order to Duke (Nov. 10), Wake Forest (Nov. 12), Georgia Tech (Nov. 18) and closing out against Clemson (Nov. 19). The Canes conclude the regular season at home against the FSU Seminoles on Saturday, Nov. 26.
This season’s NCAA Tournament begins Dec. 1, running through Dec. 4, at campus sites to be determined. The championships will be held in San Antonio, Texas on Dec. 15 (semifinals) and Dec. 17 (finals).

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Head coach Kyle Robinson and the Long Island University women’s volleyball team have released the Blackbirds’ 2011 schedule. The Blackbirds will then head to Charlottesville, Va., for the Holiday Inn Jefferson Cup with East Carolina, California and host Virginia on Sept. 2-3 before a visit to Seton Hall on Sept. 6.
Long Island will open the home portion of its schedule on Sept. 9 with this year’s installment of the two-day Blackbird Invitational. After a home date with St. John’s on Sept. 13, Long Island will conclude tournament play with a visit to defending national champion Penn State for the Penn State Classic. The Blackbirds will meet the Nittany Lions on Sept. 17 before taking on Rutgers and Florida Gulf Coast the next day.
NEC play kicks off on Sept. 24 when Long Island hosts Robert Morris. The Blackbirds will play home-and-home matches with each of their eight league opponents while sprinkling in non-conference home matches with Hofstra and Stony Brook. Northern Illinois University Volleyball Team Releases 2011 Schedule
Season-opening NIU Invitational to feature three top-40 teams from 2010
DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois volleyball team released its 2011 schedule on Friday. The 31-match fall slate features the season- and home-opener against IUPUI on August 26th along with 14 other home dates. Providing a welcomed challenge, head coach Ray Gooden’s 2011 campaign also includes contests versus seven 2010 top-50 teams, five 2010 NCAA Tournament teams and four 2010 conference champions.
The 2011 Huskies return all players but their libero from a team that was just a few sets away from claiming NIU’s first Mid-American Conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2001. With the highly-competitive slate lined up for the fall, Gooden is pushing his team to take the next step by proving themselves against stout opponents.
“I really feel that this is a fun schedule,” said Gooden, who had his Huskies face two 2009 NCAA Tournament teams last season. “I say fun not because I think it’s going to be easy, though. I think we’ve always tried to put together a competitive schedule, especially in our non-conference matches, to help us prepare for the conference season. For the second year in a row, we were able to put ourselves up against some of the better teams in the country.”
Before hitting the MAC grind, which starts at home on September 23 against Central Michigan, NIU will face four 2010 NCAA Tournament participants and 2010 top-35 teams. The Huskies will matchup with three of those teams in the opening weekend as part of a robust NIU Invitational on August 26-27 at Victor E. Court.
A yearly component of the schedule, this year’s invitational participants are IUPUI, Cincinnati (NCAA Tournament qualifier, ranked 16th), Iowa State (NCAA Tournament qualifier, ranked 33rd) and Northern Iowa (NCAA Tournament qualifier, ranked eighth). The high level of competition in the first weekend of the season will give the Huskies a solid foundation and understanding of where they are at both mentally and physically.
“I think our group, in this cycle, is working really hard to help put the volleyball program at a significant level,” Gooden said. “In order to do that, you need to not only find success but find it against successful programs. We are excited to play those four teams in our first home weekend.”
The next two weekends (Sept. 2-3 and Sept. 10), NIU hits the road to take part in a pair of invitationals. The first is in Omaha, Neb., for the Creighton Invitational, where NIU will face host Creighton (NCAA Tournament qualifier, ranked 32nd), Marquette (ranked 47th) and South Dakota. The second is in Nacogdoches, Texas, for the Stephen F. Austin Invitational, where the Huskies will take on Texas A&M and host Stephen F. Austin. The two journeys will give the Huskies a chance to get comfortable on the road before a four-match home stand that includes their first two MAC tilts.
“We are always excited to host at the beginning of the year but we know we have to find success against teams on the road,” said Gooden. “We are excited to play teams with different styles from different parts of the country.”
The home stand starts with a regional foe in Illinois-Chicago (Sept. 16) and then South Florida (Sept. 18) comes to town before NIU kicks off MAC play against Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan (Sept. 24).
NIU’s MAC slate is equally split with four home and road weekends apiece. As opposed to the past few years, the Huskies will not have any prolonged home or road stretches as their weekends alternate during league play. NIU’s eight MAC home matches are against CMU, EMU, Western Michigan (Oct. 6), Miami (Ohio) (Oct. 8), Kent State (Oct. 21), 2010 conference champion Ohio (Oct. 22), Toledo (Nov. 4) and 2010 MAC West Division champion Ball State (Nov. 5).
“We all know that once we get into MAC play the gloves fully come off and teams work their hardest to give their best efforts,” said Gooden. “We think it’s nice schedule-wise to have balance as far as home and away matches are concerned. I’ve always thought that it’s hard to have extended trips in your schedule, whether it be home or away. It’s nice not to have anything like that this year.”
For the second year in a row, NIU will close its season with a post-MAC Tournament matchup against Marquette, this time in DeKalb (Nov. 26). Gooden scheduled a post-MAC Tournament match for the first time last year hoping to use it as preparation for an NCAA Tournament appearance. Although his hope did not come to fruition, as NIU was one of the last teams off the bubble, Gooden knows it’s a necessary match to plan for teams that have NCAA aspirations.
“Our program continues to strive to be one of the top teams in the country,” said Gooden. “The top teams play on Thanksgiving weekend to get prepared for the NCAA Tournament. We thought it was a good learning experience for our team last year. That should help us with our understanding of it for this season."
